Manuel Akanji was substituted at half time after appearing to suffer an injury Manchester City’s Champions League showdown with Real Madrid.
Despite the visitors enjoying a sustained spell of momentum during the early going at the Etihad, City’s defence held firm in the face of Kylian Mbappe and Co. throughout the first half.
City took the lead after 19 minutes through Erling Haaland, but were dealt a blow just minutes later when Jack Grealish was unable to continue and was replaced by Phil Foden.
After going down earlier in the game as the opening 45 minutes came to a close, Akanji appeared to be in some discomfort as he made his way off the pitch.
With Akanji seemingly unable to play on, at the interval Guardiola replaced the Switzerland international with Rico Lewis.
In the second half Real equalised courtesy of a bizarre goal from Kylian Mbappe before City looked to have sustained yet more injury misery during the closing stages.

After making his way into the box Phil Foden was brought down by Dani Ceballos and the referee immediately pointed to the spot, with Haaland converting the spot kick to briefly restore his side’s lead before Real equalised through Brahim Diaz.
However, Foden appeared to be in significant pain following the challenge, but was eventually able to get back on his feet and continue playing.
The news will come as a blow for Guardiola, who has endured a difficult campaign after losing multiple key players to the treatment table.
Both Ederson and Nathan Ake returned on Tuesday night, with the latter having missed City’s previous six games through injury.
Meanwhile Ballon d’Or winner Rodri remains on the sidelines after suffering an ACL injury during a clash with Arsenal in September.
Oscar Bobb is also unavailable for the Premier League champions, after the Norwegian midfielder suffered a minor setback as he continues to recover from fracturing a bone in his leg during a training session prior to the start of the season.
