Marseille could assemble a strike force of Manchester United castaways as they reportedly seek to unite Marcus Rashford with Mason Greenwood.

The French side are said to have made contact about a loan deal for Rashford but face competition from around Europe.

Rashford issued a get-me-now cry to clubs around Europe last month when he confessed that he is ‘ready for a new challenge’ away from Old Trafford.

Barcelona is understood to be his favoured destination while Borussia Dortmund and Juventus have also held talks with his representatives.

But Marseille could present an attractive offer with the Mediterranean club sitting second in Ligue 1 under Roberto De Zerbi.

French newspaper L’Equipe reports that they have asked about Rashford but that they are also keen on Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel.

With Rashford’s wages understood to be around £350,000 per week, there would have to be negotiations over how much financial burden Marseille would assume.

Respected financial data website Capology claims that Adrien Rabiot is Marseille’s highest-paid star on a little over £100,000 each week.

Marseille has proven a goalscoring goldmine for Greenwood, with the 23-year-old netting 13 times in 20 games.

He was charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour in October 2022, but the charges and case were dropped in February 2023 when key witnesses withdrew and with ‘new material coming to light’.

Last season United subsidused Greenwood’s wages while he was on loan at Getafe and they did the same for Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund.

Rashford has not played since early December after United boss Ruben Amorim dropped him for the Manchester derby.

United’s preference is believed to be a permanent departure for Rashford in a £40m deal rather than a loan.

Mail Sport previously revealed that Tottenham are among the clubs to hold an interest in Rashford as well.

‘When I leave it’s going to be “no hard feelings”. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.

‘If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse.

‘I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person.

‘When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me.’

When asked if he would always be a Red at heart, Rashford – who has been at the club from the age of seven and who made his debut in 2016 – replied: ‘Yes! 100%. 100%.’
