Sam Kerr made history in Australia at the FIFA Women’s World Cup and now the Matildas skipper has witnessed more history with partner Kristie Mewis as they watched Lionel Messi bag his first MLS goal in New York.
After shaking off a calf injury that robbed Kerr of game time in the group stage of the World Cup, the Chelsea star returned to help the Aussies reach the semi-finals for the first time in history.
Now she is enjoying a well-deserved break ahead of Chelsea’s Women’s Super League (WSL) season opener against Tottenham on October 2.
She is spending time in the United States with her international star partner Kristie Mewis and they shared plenty of photos including being on-hand to watch Messi create an American sporting first.

Kerr and Mewis are rivals on the football pitch but partners in life and have been enjoying time together after the FIFA Women’s World Cup in the United States

Mewis and Kerr are happy and loved up, sharing a host of images to their social media accounts to the delight of their followers
Mewis also shared an image of the loved-up couple sharing a kiss in their hotel elevator.
‘Chronicles of hotels we’ve stayed at together continues,’ Kerr posted.

‘Makes me happy when i see people happy,’ posted another.
‘I’m just so inspired by you two. The way y’all are able to hold your individual dreams and goals as well as so intentionally support each others’ is truly to be admired and learned from,’ added another fan.
The Argentinian World Cup-winning captain entered the game in the 60th minute along with former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets.
The Argentinian superstar needed just a few seconds for his unparalleled skills to shine, a flash of brilliance that capped a memorable Major League Soccer debut.
Messi’s dazzling goal in the 89th minute helped a transformed Inter Miami beat the New York Red Bulls 2-0 and end an 11-match league winless streak.
‘I just catch myself watching him instead of picking up on my assignment,’ Miami defender Kamal Miller said.
‘It’s tough to stay focused when you have such a great presence.’
Rapper Fat Joe was one of the big names to attend Messi’s MLS debut for Inter Milan against the New York Red Bulls
Former NBA forward Carmelo Anthony and rapper French Montana were two of the other big names in attendance for the match
Kerr and Mewis were among several high-profile athletes and celebrities to see Messi’s heroics, including former NBA star Carmelo Anthony and New York hip-hop stars Fat Joe and French Montana.
Rap legend DMC, who announced that he plans to run for US President before the kick-off, Vin Rock, DJ Kay Gee, DJ Skribble and DJ Scratcon were also in attendance.
Fans paid up to $20,000 for a ticket to see the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner but had to bide their time after Inter boss Tata Martino started his superstar from the bench.
While this was Messi’s first MLS match, it was his ninth in the Inter Miami strip and he has now scored 11 goals in those games, winning all of those fixtures as well.
