Sam Kerr’s fans have congratulated her on getting engaged to her partner Kristie Mewis after Australia’s biggest football star posted a photo to social media showing her wearing a gold ring on her wedding finger.
The Matildas striker included the shot in an Instagram post on Monday night accompanied by the simple caption ‘September people x’ with two other images showing a jewelled ring on the left ring finger of her girlfriend Kristie Mewis.
It’s the first time the ring on Mewis’s hand has been pictured clearly after fans were given an accidental sneak peek at it when she featured in a promotional clip for a new video game last week.
Mewis’s left hand appeared to have been obscured on purpose in recent photos of the couple as speculation that they are engaged reached fever pitch.

The Matildas superstar also treated her fans to the first clear photo of the jewelled ring on her partner Kristie Mewis’s left ring finger
She left the comment ‘ily x’ – common slang for ‘I love you’ – on Kerr’s post, followed by another reading ‘Lushhhhh’.
Fans called the shot of Kerr sporting the gold band a ‘soft engagement launch’, with one writing, ‘Ahahah the ring congrats Sam’ and another asking, ‘So where’s the proposal vid?’
Several other commenters congratulated the couple on what seems sure to be the news that they’ve taken the next step in their romance.
While no official announcement has been made by Kerr or Mewis, the new photos are the latest and best pieces of evidence that they are going to tie the knot.

The loved-up pair celebrated Kerr’s 30th birthday earlier this month, with a photo of her celebratory dinner showing the Aussie with her hand wrapped around Mewis’s waist – and the American football star’s left hand carefully positioned to avoid showing any ring.
Mewis featured in her team Gotham FC’s promotional clip for the new EA FC 24 video game, with the ring on her left hand accidentally revealed in the footage – but it didn’t escape the couple’s fans.
She posted two photos of herself to Instagram earlier that week – and in both shots her left hand was in her pocket.
The American followed up with a post to her Instagram story last Thursday, showing what looks to be her hand holding Kerr’s.
Once again, most of the fingers on Mewis’s left hand cannot be seen in the photo – leading some to think she might have been hiding a ring.

Another shot of the pair embracing in a lift showed only the back of Mewis’s left hand, obscuring her fingers.
The couple met while they were both playing for competing clubs in the US league in 2019.
They spoke online for almost four months during the 2020 Covid lockdown before spending two weeks in quarantine together, where they quickly fell in love.
The pair continued their romance in the lead-up to the Olympics in 2021 where – following America’s defeat of Australia in the semi-finals – they were photographed together.
Their on-pitch embrace made headlines as Kerr’s break-up from her former longtime partner – another US club player, Nikki Stanton – had not yet become public.

Their cross-global romance has since been heavily documented on social media with both women amassing hundreds of thousands of followers.
‘We’re not private people. I like sharing my story. I like sharing who I am outside of football. Football is 5 per cent of my life,’ Kerr told UK publication Gaffer earlier this year.
Last month the couple travelled to Sydney while Kerr played with the Matildas in the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
In a twist, Kerr competed against Kristie’s ex-girlfriend Rachel Daly, who played for England in the semi-final.
