Fans have insisted that Lionel Messi remains the greatest footballer on earth following a talismanic performance from the Argentina captain.

With their Copa America opener fast approaching, the reigning World Cup winners took on Guatemala in a friendly at the FedExField in Maryland.

Messi added a fourth following a one-two with Angel Di Maria, cementing a dominant win in their final warm-up.

Following Argentina’s victory, Fans took to social media to assert the Inter Miami star remains the best player in world football.

With a brace on Saturday Messi took his tally for the Albiceleste to 108 goals in 182 appearances, drawing him level with Iranian striker Ali Daei in second place on the all-time international goalscoring charts.

Argentina begin their defence of the Copa America on Friday, when they take on Canada at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
