Fans have insisted that Lionel Messi remains the greatest footballer on earth following a talismanic performance from the Argentina captain.

With their Copa America opener fast approaching, the reigning World Cup winners took on Guatemala in a friendly at the FedExField in Maryland.

In front of a capacity crowd, the minnows did the unthinkable by taking the lead after just four minutes, with Man United defender Lisandro Martinez turning the ball into his own net after Emi Martinez saved from a free-kick.

Messi added a fourth following a one-two with Angel Di Maria, cementing a dominant win in their final warm-up.

Following Argentina’s victory, Fans took to social media to assert the Inter Miami star remains the best player in world football.

With a brace on Saturday Messi took his tally for the Albiceleste to 108 goals in 182 appearances, drawing him level with Iranian striker Ali Daei in second place on the all-time international goalscoring charts.

Argentina begin their defence of the Copa America on Friday, when they take on Canada at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
