Lionel Messi debuted a new Marvel celebration after scoring in Inter Miami’s 1-1 draw with Charlotte.

Charlotte had taken the lead in the 56th minute through Karol Swiderski before Messi drew his side level with a superb finish 10 minutes later.

It was the former Barcelona and PSG’s forward’s 15th goal in 16 MLS games this year, with his side at the top of the Eastern Conference.

Messi punched the air in delight before being joined by team-mates. The 37-year-old then placed his hands by his side with his palms down before raising his heels for lift-off like Iron Man.

The Argentinian forward looked up at his kids in the stands as he performed his latest Marvel celebration.

In his first year with Miami, Messi produced a number of Marvel themed cleebrations including reaching out for Thor’s Hammer, crossing his arms over his chest like Black Panther and shooting out webs like Spiderman.

Speaking to the Miam Herald last August, Messi revealed the celebrations began after watching Marvel movies with his sons.

‘My three sons are still on vacation, have not started school yet, so every night we watch Marvel superhero movies,’ he said.

They came up with the idea and asked that whenever I have a game and score a goal, I do a Marvel superhero celebration. That’s how it started, a. d we continued that ritual

‘Each time we watched a new movie, we would practice a goal celebration. But I only do them for home games, when the kids are here, near me, so we can share those moments. When I see them in the stands, that is when I do them.’

The draw with Charlotte ended on a sour note for Messi after he had an altercation with the referee.

He felt his team should have been awarded a penalty in the dying moments of the match after Charlotte’s goalkeeper collided with Luis Suarez.

Messi  approached the referee and according to ‘Ole’ via Mundo Deportivo, told him: ‘You’re a mean-spirited son of a b****.’

The former Barcelona and PSG forward escaped a sending off and was booked instead, even though the match had ended.
