Nantes owner denies Trent Alexander-Arnold purchase rumors

Nantes owner Waldemar Kita has rubbished claims that Trent Alexander-Arnold was in talks to purchase the French side.

Reports surfaced earlier this week that the Liverpool defender was considering adding Nantes to his portfolio through an investment fund owned with his dad, Michael.

Earlier this week French outlet L’Equipe claimed the 25-year-old had prepared a bid worth €100m (£84m), with €80m (£67m) up front, along with €20m (£17m) in seller credit. There would also be a potential further €40m (£34m) in bonuses.

However, sources close to Alexander-Arnold later denied the reports insisting they were categorically untrue.

The bizarre story has prompted a furious response from Kita, who insisted he had never even met Alexander-Arnold despite reports to the contrary.

‘This is all bulls***! Where does that come from?’ The 71-year-old businessman told Presse Ocean.

‘How do you expect a serious man who wants to purchase a club to use a journalist? Trent Alexander-Arnold? But I don’t even know him!’

The reported bid comes after Michael allegedly held a meeting with Nantes owner Waldemar Kita earlier this week.

The pair are said to have met in London on Thursday to discuss a potential deal after first making contact with one another over a year ago.

L’Equipe‘s report claims they first spoke via video call last summer prior to meeting in person in Geneva, Switzerland, more recently.

A third meeting has now reportedly taken place with Alexander-Arnold and his dad reportedly aiming to complete their takeover of Nantes.

Kita went on to claim he had consulted with his lawyers regarding the England international after the story was first published.

‘He told me his father was involved in finance and that they have players as well as agents,’ Kita continued.

‘I’ve never done any video conference with anyone, ever. It’s nonsense. How can you even in this business, with such sums?’

The Franco-Polish businessman’s popularity among Nantes fans has waned over time with Nantes fans, despite the club winning the Coupe de France two years ago.

That was their first piece of the silverware since they won the French title for the eighth time in 2001.

Nantes have made a positive start to the new season, collecting seven points from their opening four matches to leave them fifth in France’s top flight.
