Newcastle fans dazzled by 3D light show celebrating club legends

Newcastle fans were on Saturday treated to a light display by club sponsors Sela to celebrate the club and its history.

More than 10,000 fans attended the show on the Newcastle Quayside to watch club legends and iconic moments from the club’s history up in lights, projected on to the Baltic Flour Mills.

The 3D show, titled ‘We Are One’, was the first of its kind from a Premier League sponsor and marked the one-year anniversary of the two parties working together.

The likes of Alan Shearer and Sir Bobby Robson were among those celebrated as fans watches onto get a glimpse of the display showing off some of the club’s legends.

Lasting nine minutes, the show marked the one-year anniversary of Newcastle and Sela working together following the take over of the club in 2021.

The show portrayed some of Newcastle’s most historic moments, including Shearer’s iconic volley against Everton in 2002 and David Ginola’s wondergoal versus Ferencvaros in the 1996 UEFA Cup.

The likes of Tino Asprilla and Newcastle’s women’s team, who earned promotion to the Championship last season, were also celebrated.

Towards the end of the show, Newcastle’s official shirt for next season was displayed with the message: ‘And this is only the beginning,’ as those in attendance cheered.

Sela have also launched haptic shirts to enable fans who are deaf or suffer with hearing loss to feel the atmosphere of the crowd inside St James’ Park.

Fans could find out more information about the event prior to it taking place by  calling a phone number that greeted them with the message: ‘Hello there. We don’t have that BMX for sale anymore, unfortunately, but what we do have is an invitation for you to come to the Quayside this Saturday night.

‘Sela, Newcastle United’s sponsor, would love it if you could assemble opposite the Baltic, where they are putting on special shows to celebrate our club, our city and our fans, after 10pm. You don’t want to miss out! See you on Saturday!’
