England fans vented their frustration after Phil Foden saw a potential equaliser disallowed against Slovakia in Sunday’s knockout clash with Slovakia at Euro 2024.

Foden was denied after a VAR review found that he had been offside before he tapped the ball into the net four minutes into the second half in Gelsenkirchen.

The Three Lions were losing 1-0 at this point, having fallen behind to a goal from Ivan Schranz midway through the first half.

England fans were far from impressed – both in the stadium, where the half-time whistle had been greeted with a loud chorus of boos, and back home.

But many fans did not blame Foden for drifting into an offside position. Instead, social media was full of angry England supporters raging at Trippier for passing to him.

One angry fan tweeted: ‘Why did Trippier not shoot FFS! If we had a natural left footer there, that’s a goal.’

Another wrote: ‘Why the f*** didn’t Trippier shoot. He was so clearly offside’.

One comment read: ‘That is embarrassing af from trippier why wouldn’t u shoot?’

Trippier was eventually substituted off in the 65th minute but not for the only natural left back in England’s squad.

With Luke Shaw still unfit, Gareth Southgate opted to replace Trippier with Cole Palmer.
