Manchester United have opted to stick with Erik ten Hag and are even in contract talks with the Dutchman over an extension to his current deal.
The news has been welcomed by most Man Utd fans, not least because it offers the situation some resolution and the club can now start to build for the future.

The former Ajax boss will take a backseat in dealing with transfers, however, which means it’s up to the club’s hierarchy to sort the incomings and outgoings, with Dan Ashworth ready in waiting to step into the role as sporting director.

Harry Maguire
Harry Maguire will sadly miss the England Euro 2024 campaign, but it does offer plenty of time to sort out his future at Old Trafford. In recent seasons, the former Leicester City man has become a beacon of reliability at the back for Man Utd – but his hefty wages mean that they will surely be open to offers for him.
Could we see a club like West Ham make another play for the defender?
With Ten Hag back in, that surely spells the end for Sancho. Man Utd want around £40m for the winger, but Borussia Dortmund, where he was previously on loan, cannot afford that as well as his salary.
Plenty of clubs are looking for a right-winger in the summer but Sancho will pose a gamble – will they get his Bundesliga or Premier League form?

Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Aaron Wan-Bissaka was one of the first players in the side that Ten Hag asked to move on when the coach arrived in 2022. For the first six months of Ten Hag’s reign, it seemed as though the right-back was certain to leave, but a good spell during winter months ensured his survival for another season at least.
But Man Utd appear to be open to offers for the right-back now, with Inter Milan heavily linked to the 26-year-old. The wing-back has been a solid servant for Man Utd but injuries as well as an inability to attack mean that he’s likely to leave.
Scott McTominay is something of an enigma and given his important goals last season you would be forgiven for believing the inclusion of the Scot on this list is harsh.
But the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo, as well as the possible addition of a central midfielder in the summer transfer window, might spell the end for the player at Man Utd.
Antony
It’s high chance that Man Utd will receive any sort of fee for Antony, who had one of the worst seasons imaginable last term. A single goal contribution throughout the season saw the winger cut a frustrated figure for most of the campaign. What could happen here, though, is a loan move away. Perhaps a mid-table Serie A club.
Antony, for better or worse, had been a top performer in the Eredivisie and so there could be a club that can get a tune out of him yet. But he certainly needs a break from Man Utd.
Arsenal could be set for a massive summer to build on the back of another strong Premier League finish.
The Gunners are still set to fight it out with Manchester City for the Premier League title but they have at least guaranteed a return to the Champions League next season.

With Arsenal back among the title contenders and with money to spend, FootballTransfers takes a look at which players could be heading for the Emirates exit ahead of, what will likely be, a busy summer for Mikel Arteta.
EXCLUSIVE: Arsenal Under-18s wonderkid labelled ‘new Wilshere’ set for promotion
Part of Arteta’s decision-making process this summer will be determining which players can be sold for significant fees in order to ensure Arsenal can afford their top transfer targets such as Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes.
One of the Gunners’ most valuable yet arguably dispensable assets is Kieran Tierney, who could look to leave the club after losing his spot to Oleksandr Zinchenko last term and then shipping out on loan to Real Sociedad.
The Scot, however, has struggled to make the first XI of the La Liga outfit, meaning it’s unlikely that he will be making a return to the Emirates to fight for a regular starting spot.
Thomas Partey’s future remains a topic of discussion. There have been sounds that the former Atletico Madrid player would like a move away in search of guaranteed game-time, with clubs in Saudi Arabia and even Juventus linked as far back as last year.
It is thought that he informed his manager of his intent to leave but ultimately it’s Arsenal who decide who should be allowed to depart.
– Emile Smith Rowe has been left out of the starting XI this season
It is perhaps testament to the progression of Arteta’s side that Emile Smith Rowe, once touted as one of the finest players to ever come out of Arsenal’s academy, is now facing an uncertain future at the club.
Smith Rowe has struggled with securing a sport under Arteta, and his fitness concerns have seen him fall down the pecking order at the Emirates.
The attacker has two years left on his contract but could be sold on for a reasonable fee, with Aston Villa long-term admirers of the midfielder.
Another academy graduate who was once considered the future of the club is Charlie Patino and, despite drawing comparisons to former Arsenal favourite Santi Cazorla, the 20-year-old may be sold this summer.
Patino was on loan at Blackpool last season but failed to stop the club being relegated from the Championship, having initially impressed early in his spell. This term he was playing in England’s second division once more, this time with Swansea City.
While Arsenal have the option to extend Patino’s contract until 2025, the youngster has accepted he may not ever break into the first team and will likely look to move on permanently this summer.
Tierney’s departure could see Arsenal in the market for a new left-back despite having Nuno Tavares on loan at Nottingham Forest this season and set for a return next month.
The 24-year-old was not chosen by Arteta as the Spaniard was not impressed by Tavares’ professionalism during his time at Arsenal.
While Arsenal may not want to lose two backup left-backs in one summer, Tavares may be cashed in, with Forest able to activate an option to buy the defender at the end of the season.

16-year-old Amir Ibragimov is running the show for Man Utd’s youth teams and the 16-year-old has been training on-and-off with the first team for a year.
Born in the Russian republic of Dagestan in 2008, Ibragimov moved with his family to England when he was 11, and he began his budding career in the Sheffield United youth academy before joining Man Utd’s.
Article continues under the video
Ibragimov comes from a sporting family – elder brother Ibragim is an MMA fighter, while his younger sibling Gazi is also part of United’s youth set-up – but few would have predicted such a rapid rise.
Ibragimov trained with United’s first team at Carrington for the first time in April 2023, despite only celebrating his 15th birthday earlier that same month. So, how good is Ibragimov?
READ MORE: Who is Mikayil Faye? The Barcelona prodigy wanted by Arsenal and Man Utd
What position does Ibragimov play in?
Ibragimov is primarily a left winger, although he has also played on the right flank and at central midfield in captaining Man Utd’s under-14 and under-15 sides. His future, however, may lie in the number ten role.
How good is Ibragimov?
Ibragimov is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in United’s academy. After all, it’s not every day a 16-year-old trains with the first team. To say that the youngster is precious would be an understatement.
The teenager has frequently played against players several years his senior and he has become a regular part of Man Utd’s U21 squad this season, also still featuring for the U18s at times.
Born in Dagestan, Ibragimov remains eligible to represent Russia internationally, but he has thus far represented England, with whom he is capped up to under-15 level.

Former Man Utd academy coach Raducio King said of Ibragimov in 2023: “I didn’t know much about him at first but could see his energy. His never-give-in mentality is what impresses me the most, if you need someone to sprint for you in the last seconds to clear the ball because there’s a counter-attack, he’d be your kid.”
“There aren’t many I’ve seen that can run like him. I could see him playing as a No.10, like a Wayne Rooney role, driving forward, switching balls, tackling, attacking, you name it. Just making sure the team does well – he can attack and defend.”
“I’ve played the game myself and I know being great at that age is good and it’s something to be proud of, however, if the end goal is reaching the first team, you have to keep yourself humble and working. I think he can get there.”
“Hard work beats talent and he’s got both. He can be guided to become even more successful and we’re one big family. He was shy at first, but if he knows you, you’ll see the real Amir. He was going to be a little reserved, to begin with. He came to this country and couldn’t speak the language, but his English is beautiful now, it’s really good.”
Given Ibragimov’s age and talent, he will no doubt be on the radar of most top clubs, but for now he will go through a scholarship at United and will be eligible to sign his first professional contract at 17.
When does Ibragimov’s contract expire?
Ibragimov’s current youth deal at Old Trafford runs until 30 June, 2025.
How old is Ibragimov?
Born on 2 April 2008, Ibragimov is 16.
What is Ibragimov’s Instagram?
Ibragimov’s Instagram can be found under the handle @amir_ibra7. He has 195k followers as of April 2024.
Joao Felix is the most expensive Portuguese footballer of all time for his transfer to Atletico Madrid from Benfica for €126 million.
The attacker made the move to the Wanda Metropolitano in the summer of 2019, becoming the fourth most expensive transfer ever at the time.
Felix, 19 at the time of the transfer, failed to live up to his potential at Atletico and he was loaned to Chelsea in January 2023 and then Barcelona in the summer of 2023.

The second most expensive Portuguese soccer player in history is Cristiano Ronaldo, who moved to Juventus from Real Madrid in 2018 for €100m.
Ronaldo was already 33 at the time of this transfer but such was his greatness he still commanded a three-figure sum.

He scored over 100 goals in just three years in Turin.
The third most expensive Portuguese transfer ever is also Ronaldo for his move to Real Madrid from Man Utd for €94m in 2009.
Ronaldo broke the world transfer record at the time with this move and became one of the greatest players in Real Madrid’s history during nine years there.
He became the club’s all-time top goalscorer and won a horde of trophies, including four Champions Leagues.
The fourth most expensive Portuguese player ever is Ruben Dias for his €72m move to Manchester City from Benfica in 2020.
Dias soon developed into arguably the best defender in the Premier League as Man City dominated English football under Pep Guardiola.
The fifth biggest Portuguese transfer is another Man City signing in the form of Joao Cancelo’s €65m move from Juventus in 2019.
This deal saw Danilo move the other way, but there was no doubt who were better off as Cancelo became one of the best full-backs in the world.

Goncalo Ramos also moved for €65m in the summer of 2023, leaving Benfica for PSG.
In seventh place is Bruno Fernandes for his €63m move to Man Utd from Sporting Lisbon.
Bruno has been one of United’s most successful transfers of the last decade.
In eighth is an oldie in the form of Luis Figo’s infamous switch from Barcelona to Real Madrid in 2000 for €63m.
Figo broke the world record at the time in one of the most controversial transfers in history as Madrid created a team of Galacticos.
Completing the top 10 are Pedro Neto’s €60m move to Chelsea from Wolves in 2024 and Otavio’s €60m move to Saudi Arabia in 2024.

Public and panel votes decide who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame and a player must be retired and have made a minimum of 250 Premier League appearances to stand a chance of inclusion unless they have met one of the following criteria:
– Made a minimum of 200 Premier League appearances for one club
– Been selected in any of the Premier League Team of the Decade or 20-Year Anniversary teams
– Won a Premier League Golden Boot or Golden Glove
– Been voted as Premier League Player of the Season
– Won three Premier League titles
– Scored 100 Premier League goals or recorded 100 Premier League clean sheets (goalkeepers only)
Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger are the only two managers to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame.
Ferguson was the dominant managerial figure in English football over a period that stretched two decades. He won 13 Premier League titles with Manchester United and led the Old Trafford club to Champions League success on two occasions, including a historic treble in 1999.

Wenger, meanwhile, was Ferguson’s main rival in the early years of the 2000s, when Arsenal were at their peak. He enjoyed an intense rivalry with the Scot and is widely credited for elevating the Gunners to their current position.
Man Utd and Arsenal both have eight members in the Hall of Fame, which is more than any other club. Chelsea and Manchester City are third with four each.
Paul Mitchell has been announced as Newcastle’s sporting director following weeks of speculation.
The executive left Monaco after the last summer window and has been out of work since. The Magpies conducted a thorough search for a replacement for Dan Ashworth, who recently joined Manchester United after the two clubs agreed compensation, and made the announcement on Thursday.

Mitchell’s record speaks for itself: he has enjoyed a meteoric rise, from head of recruitment at MK Dons to being a sports director at Monaco, and revered across Europe. Throughout his career away from the pitch, he has discovered some real gems and world-class talent.
FootballTransfers has put together a list of the best XI players Mitchell purchased during his time at Southampton, Tottenham, RB Leipzig, and Monaco.

🤝 We are delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Mitchell as our new sporting director.
Mitchell oversaw the move of Alexander Nubel to Monaco. The German was lacking in game-time for Bayern Munich and the Englishman brought him to Ligue 1 on a two-season loan. Today Nubel plays for VfB Stuttgart on loan from Bayern Munich.
RB: Nathaniel Clyne
There was something of a golden generation at Southampton when Mitchell was recruiting there. One of the more notable names he brought in was Nathaniel Clyne, who thrived for the Saints. The defender signed a four-year deal with the newly promoted Premier League club in 2012, before becoming England’s first-choice right-back and earning a transfer to Liverpool.
CB: Nordi Mukiele
There’s still so much to come from Nordi Mukiele. Mitchell earmarked him for RB Leipzig in 2018 and the side paid Montpellier €16m. After four seasons and 146 games for the German outfit, Paris-Saint Germain swooped in and purchased the Frenchman.
– Mukiele thrived at RB Leipzig
CB: Eric Dier
Eric Dier was plucked from Sporting Lisbon and arrived at Spurs for €5m in 2014. He’s been a regular starter for them for almost ten years, playing 347 games in all competitions. Though his form is capricious, there is no denying he is a bargain for what Spurs paid. The former England international left to Bayern Munich last January where he’s found more game-time.
LB: Toby Alderweireld
Mitchell had brought in Toby Alderweireld to Southampton on loan when the defender was at Atletico Madrid. The Saints had a buy-out clause but the La Liga side reportedly moved the goalposts and he went back to Spain. But Mitchell pounced again when he joined Spurs, finally sealing his man on a permanent switch in 2015. Alderweireld became one of the best-performing Premier League defenders for a period.
CM: Aurelien Tchouameni
Mitchell plucked Aurelien Tchouameni from Bordeaux in 2020. Just two years later, the Frenchman was purchased by Real Madrid for €80m, a fee which could rise to €100m in additional fees. At 24 years old still, Tchouameni now is considered to be one of the world’s best.
CM: Tyler Adams
Tyler Adams departed New York Red Bulls after being sought by Mitchell. The midfielder linked up with Jesse Marsch at RB Leipzig and enjoyed four great seasons. He reunited for a period with compatriot Marsch last summer at Leeds for €22m, before heading to Bournemouth.
CM: Dele Alli
Mitchel used his links to MK Dons to seal the switch of Dele Alli to Spurs. Following his €7m move from the League One side, Alli became one of the most exciting English prospects around. He was linked to all the elite clubs but remained with Spurs. His career has tailed off since, however, and is now without a club.
– Alli was once one of the Premier League’s best
ST: Son Heung-min
When Mitchell recruited Son Heung-min from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, he saw something a lot didn’t. No one would anticipate how good Son was and how well he would be performing in the subsequent years. An undeniable world-class talent, Son is now a Spurs legend and one of the Premier League’s all-time elites.

ST: Christopher Nkunku
Mitchell encouraged RB Leipzig to pay just €13m to sign Christopher Nkunku from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019. The attacker is arguably the best player in the Bundesliga today, winning the 2021-22 Player of the Season award last term, and earned a mega-money move to Chelsea, with the Blues paying around €70m. Not a bad return on a PSG outcast – especially given the 64 goals he netted for them during his time there, even if injuries have hampered this form.
– Nkunku is now set for a Premier League move
ST: Matheus Cunha
RB Leipzig brought in Matheus Cunha from FC Sion in 2018 when Mitchell was there. It wasn’t the best spell, but now the attacker has found himself at Wolves on loan from Atletico Madrid, before a permanent switch was made. He showed glimpses last season but there could be more to come from the Brazilian.

Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs in world football, in terms of both fanbase and trophies won – but it’s been quite a while now since they last won the Premier League title.
The Red Devils have the third highest numbers of followers across all social media channels of any football club in the world, behind only Real Madrid and Barcelona, and they currently boast the most English top-flight titles of any team in history with 20.
The Old Trafford club have also been the dominant side in England since the introduction of the Premier League in 1992, or at least they were for the first two decades of the competition.
However, after so many years at the top of English football with unprecedented success, the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013 led to a remarkable drop-off in performance, with Man Utd failing to win the English top flight since the Scotsman left his role at the helm.
Man Utd’s last Premier League title – when was it?
The last time Man Utd won the Premier League title was in the 2012/13 season. The Premier League trophy was clinched on Monday April 22, 2013 thanks to a 3-0 win over Aston Villa in which Robin van Persie netted a hat-trick. Van Persie had joined the Red Devils in 2012 from rivals Arsenal and helped fire Man Utd to their most recent Premier League triumph with 26 goals in the league.
So the wait for United fans is getting longer by the minute, with the clock ticking to more than TEN YEARS since their team last ruled English football.
It was Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season in charge and he bowed out of management with his 13th Premier League trophy. His first triumph in the division had come in its first season in 1992/93, which ended a 26-year wait for an English top-flight title.
When Sir Alex Ferguson took over Man Utd he declared:
🗣 “My greatest challenge is knocking Liverpool right off their fucking perch.”
The most recent title for the Red Devils before 1993 was in the 1966/67 campaign, clinching top spot by four points from Nottingham Forest. That was Sir Matt Busby’s last league title with Man Utd.
In total, Man Utd have won 68 trophies in their history, across domestic, European and international competitions.
Ferguson was in charge for all 13 of Man Utd’s Premier League trophies and his last game in charge of the club was a 5-5 draw against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns in May 2013.
Man Utd after Sir Alex Ferguson – a title-free zone
Man Utd have failed to win the Premier League since Ferguson left his role in charge in 2013. Their best finish since he departed is second under Jose Mourinho in the 2017/18 season and then under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the 2020/21 season.
In the first season after Ferguson left, David Moyes was in charge for the majority of the season before being sacked before the end of the campaign. Ryan Giggs took charge for the final few games and the Red Devils finished down in seventh place. They accumulated 25 less points than in the season prior.
Louis van Gaal was then appointed ahead of the 2014/15 campaign and guided Man Utd to fourth place and a return to Champions League football. Van Gaal was unable to repeat the trick in the Premier League in 2015/16, with Man Utd finishing in fifth place. The FA Cup he won was merely a consolation prize for losing his job at the end of the season.
The Dutchman was replaced by Mourinho in the summer of 2016 and finished sixth in his first season in charge at Old Trafford. He did however win the Europa League, the League Cup and the Community Shield.
The following year, Mourinho achieved more success in the league, guiding the Red Devils to second place, behind only Manchester City. They were 19 points behind their city rivals, but held off the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Chelsea to finish second.
Mourinho began the 2018/19 season in charge but was sacked in December after a poor run of form. Solskjaer took over on an interim basis and was handed the role on a full-time basis after a famous Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain in March 2019. His team finished only sixth in the Premier League though.
– Solskjaer and Rangnick boths struggled
Solskjaer then guided them to third place the following year before backing that up with a second-place finish in the 2020/21 campaign, their joint-best ever since Ferguson left the club.
The Norwegian was sacked though in November 2021 and was replaced by Ralf Rangnick on a deal until the end of the 2021-22 season. The former RB Leipzig head coach finished sixth in the top flight before leaving to take up a role as the Austria national team head coach.
Dutchman Erik ten Hag took charge in 2022 and initially led United to some success, winning two FA Cups, before he was sacked in 2024.
Sporting manager Ruben Amorim replaced Ten Hag and will be hoping to be the man to end United’s title drought.
€1.6billion transfer flops – the price of Man Utd failure
Manchester United have spent around €1.6 billion (£1.4billion) on buying new players since Ferguson’s retirement – and right now it does not look like value for money.

Season after season, the Red Devils have looked to rectify past transfer flops with even more expensive arrivals, and that strategy hasn’t helped their bid to reclaim the Premier League title.
They have spent over €50m on 12 different players since 2013, with most of these arguably going down as failures rather than success stories.
Their top 10 most expensive purchases since 2013 are: Paul Pogba, Antony, Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho, Romelu Lukaku, Angel Di Maria, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Martial, and Fred.
– Pogba was an expensive failure
Pogba originally left the club on a free transfer in 2012 to join Juventus, and after four years in Turin, he was re-signed by the Red Devils for €105m in 2016. After six years of inconsistent form, Pogba left the club – yet again on a free transfer to Juventus.
The Frenchman was scapegoated during his time at Old Trafford and blamed for their poor form multiple times. The same fate has occurred to Maguire, who was made club captain after just a few months at the club, but has received much criticism for his performances in recent years.
Lukaku and Di Maria both left without leaving too much of an impression, while Sancho has been a major disappointment since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.
What was the last trophy Man Utd won?
The last trophy Man Utd won was the 2024 FA Cup under Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman beat rivals Manchester City in his second successive final in the tournament.
Rafaela Pimenta has emerged as one of football’s super agents following the death of Mino Raiola in April 2022.
Raiola was regarded as one of the game’s most powerful agents, but he died due to illness aged 54 and Pimenta inherited his agency, with clients such as Erling Haaland now represented by the Brazilian.
Several players have opted to part ways with Pimenta since Raiola’s death, but a number of high-profile stars remain under her watchful eye.
Who is Jorge Mendes? The superagent with a €1.44 billion football empire
Who is Rafaela Pimenta
Pimenta was once described as “the most important person in football that nobody knows” by an unnamed Premier League director, but she has stepped out of the shadows with a profile that is only set to grow.
Born in Brazil, she had worked with Raiola for 18 years before assuming control of his agency, One.
Who is Pini Zahavi? The former football journalist who used contacts to build vast football agency
Pimenta was initially introduced to Raiola when working at a charity football match for the Brazilian government, and from there they struck up a strong working relationship.
Although she wasn’t in the spotlight during Raiola’s time as a super agent, her presence in some of the biggest deals in footballing history has been felt, with Pimenta helping secure Haaland’s big-money transfer to Manchester City in the summer of 2022.
She is now one of the most powerful agents in world football.
Who are Rafaela Pimenta’s clients?
Pimenta’s list of footballers is a formidable one, including some of the finest players in the game today.
Erling Haaland is perhaps her biggest star, with the Man City striker having excelled since moving to the Premier League from Borussia Dortmund.
Pimenta played a key role in Haaland’s new Man City contract, which runs until 2034 and is set to earn him a fortune in wages.
Equally, Paul Pogba commands a huge profile, with the World Cup winner having once been the most expensive player in the world.
Other stars on Pimenta’s books include Matthijs de Ligt, Marco Verratti, Santiago Gimenez, Noussair Mazraoui, Oscar Gloukh, Andreas Schjelderup, Alphonse Areola and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Pimenta also represents Liverpool manager Arne Slot.

Successor to Mino Raiola
Pimenta has shown a willingness to fight for her clients like Raiola once did, noting the manner in which she had to fight off “lowlifes” vying for their signatures after the untimely passing of her predecessor.
“There are also a bunch of lowlifes who called the players,” she told The Telegraph.
“One called Walter Benitez the day that Mino died. And Wanda, his wife, picked up and she gave him such a tongue-lashing and said, ‘You should be ashamed of yourself.’
“Before Mino died, they called Alphonse Areola. Thousands of people called Xavi Simons, thousands of people called Erling Haaland, thousands of people called Paul Pogba.
“They called me also and said: ‘If you need help I can run the business for you.’”
What is Rafaela Pimenta’s net worth?
Rafaela Pimenta’s net worth isn’t publicly known, but given the value of transfers that she has been involved in negotiating, it will be significant – and is only expected to grow in the years ahead.

The competition was a Catalan provincial championship and Barca’s principle competition before the national league was formed in 1929. Despite that massive result they did not lift the title, losing out to Hispania in spite of scoring 51 goals in eight games.

Rayan Ait-Nouri is one of the most wanted players in the entire Premier League, with some of the divisions biggest clubs keen on landing him this summer.

What position does Rayan Ait-Nouri play?
Ait-Nouri is a left-back, however he has frequently played as a left-wing-back during his time at Wolves.
How good is Rayan Ait-Nouri?
Ait-Nouri is considered to be one of the best left-backs in the entire Premier League.
He was forced to bide his time upon joining Wolves permanently in 2021, but he is firmly the club’s first-choice option on the left flank now and has been tipped for a big-money move away.
Ait-Nouri is a two-way full-back capable of providing value at both ends of the pitch, but his best work certainly comes when attacking.

Although his output has never matched the very best in his position, Ait-Nouri is a brilliant dribbler and excels at progressing the ball up the pitch via a carry or a pass. He is technically secure and combines that with brilliant physical attributes.
The Algerian was by no means a guaranteed starter at the start of the 2023-24 season, but he is now arguably Wolves’ most important player under O’Neil. In fact, he failed to make the matchday squad in nine of Wolves’ final 10 matches of the 2022-23 campaign under Julen Lopetegui, however Ait-Nouri is now indispensable.
A bundle of energy, Ait-Nouri is the perfect left-wing-back and a move away seems on the cards soon.
Furthermore, before choosing to represent Algeria at international level Ait-Nouri was part of Sylvain Ripoll’s France Under-21 squad alongside Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana and several other top talents.
Desire Doue is set to follow the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Eduardo Camavinga in becoming a major star to be grown in the Rennes academy system.
Dembele and Camavinga are now with PSG and Real Madrid respectively, and there are hopes that the teenage midfielder can follow in their footsteps.

Last season, at 17 years old, he notched a game-winning goal in the Europa League against Dynamo Kyiv in just his second European appearance. In netting, he became the first player born in 2005 to score for a club from the ‘Big 5’ leagues in continental competition, beating Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel, who came through the Bretons’ youth ranks with him before winning a big-money move to the Bundesliga champions in the summer.
There is a sense that there is so much more to come from the young Frenchman.
So just what is all the fuss about?
What position does Desire Doue play?
Desire Doue has typically featured on the left wing for Rennes this season, acting as a wide playmaker.
In the past, however, he has featured more centrally as a No.10 or even a No.8.
How good is Desire Doue?
During the second half 2023/24 season, Doue established himself as a starter for Rennes after initially showing signs of inconsistency in his performances as is the case of many young players.
Impressively, he has managed to save many of his best performances for the big occasion, which suggests that he has strong mentality and the capacity to make it at the top level.
He notched an assist against PSG and came away from a 3-0 loss against AC Milan at San Siro in the Europa League with immense credit, having looked entirely comfortable in those surroundings.
Data analytics experts SciSports already rate Doue as one of the best players in his position in Ligue 1.
His strengths are in the technical side of the game. He is an excellent dribbler, with an eye-catching capacity to manipulate the ball. Indeed, below the absolute elite dribblers in Ligue 1 like Rayan Cherki and the PSG trio of Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola, he is better than anyone.
He also passes the ball smoothly and is particularly good around the box.
Doue is not so strong defensively – a little ironic given his brother Guela is playing regularly at right-back for Rennes – while his crossing is an area of his game that needs work.
But he has already shown a capacity for improvement, as predicted by former head coach Bruno Genesio after his goal against Kyiv.
“He will have to improve his decision making very quickly. But he has a lot of self-confidence, which allowed him to go and win the ball and to score the goal. He’s a very young player, but doing what he has been doing for some time, at his age, shows a very high level of potential,” Genesio said at the time.
Doue has listened and has addressed his weaknesses.

*Excluding qualifying.
Ronaldo is the all-time top goalscorer in Champions League history with 140 goals in the competition. He has also netted once in Champions League qualifying, but this goal hasn’t been included.
His long-term nemesis Lionel Messi has the second-highest number of Champions League goals (129), although both players are now unlikely to add to their totals due to the fact Ronaldo plays for Al-Nassr and Messi is at Inter Miami.
Robert Lewandowski is third on the list with 94 Champions League strikes and he will be hoping to reach the 100-goal mark before the end of his career.
Real Madrid legend Karim Benzema has 90 career goals in the Champions League, but he may find it difficult to increase his tally as he is not currently playing in Europe.
Fellow ex-Los Blancos striker Raul is fifth, with 71 goals, and he was the highest-scoring player in Champions League history from 2005 until 2014.
Ruud van Nistlerooy (56), Thomas Muller (54) and Thierry Henry (50) are the final three players with at least a half-century of Champions League goals to their name.
Real Madrid icon Alfredo di Stefano scored 49 goals in just 58 appearances in the European Cup, helping Los Blancos to a record five triumphs in a row in the late 1950s and early 60s. He is the ninth-highest goalscorer in the competition’s history.
Andriy Shevchenko completes the top 10, while several other notable players are included in the top 20. Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland are expected to rise sharply over the next few years and could soon challenge the top five.

Joao Gomes is the latest midfielder on Manchester United’s transfer wish-list as Erik ten Hag seeks summer reinforcements.
The Brazilian recently made his senior international debut against England and he has shone since joining Wolves from Flamengo in 2023.
Article continues under the video
But, who is Gomes and just how good is the Man Utd target?
What position does Joao Gomes play?
Gomes is a defensive midfielder who can play as a ‘six’ or as an ‘eight’.
How good is Joao Gomes?
Gomes is one of the most well-regarded players in Brazilian football and he is expected to join a Champions League level club very soon.
The Wolves star made over 100 appearances for Flamengo before moving to Molineux for over €18m in January 2023 and his time in Brazil was sensational.
Gomes led his side to the Brazilian Serie A title in 2020 and the Supercopa do Brasil in 2021, as well as the regional Campeonato Carioca trophies in 2020 and 2021. Furthermore, he also played a key role as Flamengo triumphed in the Copa Libertadores and Brazilian Cup finals in 2022.
A tough-tackling midfielder, Gomes is the perfect number six and there aren’t many players in world football who can match the number of defensive actions he musters each game.
Although not renowned for his ability in the final third, Gomes is comfortable in possession and after being criticised for his lack of goal contributions in Brazil, he responded: “I hear a lot that I don’t know how to create. These days, I’m stealing more balls than I’m setting up, but I still know how to set up. I know how to make a key pass and get assists.”
Following his senior Brazil debut against England in March 2023, Micah Richards was eager to heap praise on the Wolves star. “We have to give a quick shoutout to Gomes of Wolves,” he said. “Oh my word, what a player he is by the way.
“I didn’t have the team-sheet and I didn’t have my glasses on and I was thinking, ‘who’s this guy?’
“I couldn’t even see until I got my glasses on but Gomes, he is a player by the way,” Richards continued.
“Obviously, we don’t get to see Wolves too much on TV. We see them on Match of the Day. Seeing him up close and personal, his touches, his anticipation when he’s winning the ball back and his weight of ball forward. Sorry Wolves fans, he’s going to the top that lad.”
What clubs are interested in Joao Gomes?
Man Utd have emerged as strong candidates to sign Gomes ahead of the 2024 summer transfer window. The Red Devils are seeking a replacement for Casemiro and the Wolves man is one possible candidate, along with Amadou Onana and Joao Neves.
However, FootballTransfers has been told that Man Utd will have to pay considerably more than £40 million to sign the Brazil international.
Gomes was on Man Utd’s radar during his time at Flamengo, before he joined Wolves, while Liverpool were credited with strong interest in his services too.
The Wolves midfielder even previously admitted: “Liverpool are a team I’d play for. I have the greatest desire to play [for them].
“Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football.”
When does Joao Gomes’ contract expire?
Gomes’ current contract at Wolves runs until 30 June 2028.
How old is Joao Gomes?
Gomes was born on 12 February 2001. He is 23 years old at the time of writing.
What is Joao Gomes’ Instagram?
Gomes’ Instagram account is @joaogomes.01. He has 2.9m followers as of March 2024.
Who is Ethan Nwaneri? Arsenal’s 17-year-old midfield prodigy
Ethan Nwaneri came off the bench for Arsenal in their 3-0 win over Brentford on Sunday in 2022 at the tender age of 15 years, five months and 29 days to become the youngest player in Premier League history.
Fast-forward to the the 2024/25 season and the youngster is starting to make waves. The 17‑year‑old scored twice on his full debut as the Gunners beat Bolton Wanderers 5-1 at the Emirates.
Arsenal have a rich history of blooding young players, particularly midfielders, with Cesc Fabregas, Jack Wilshere, Jermain Pennant, and more recently Jack Porter, being all just 16 when they made their first-team debuts.
Premier League summer transfers 2024: All the Done Deals
Already a staple of Arsenal’s under-18s, despite playing against teenagers sometimes three years older than him, Nwaneri bagged an assist against Blackburn on his Premier League 2 debut in March.
Eligible for England and Nigeria at international level, the youngster has thus far made seven appearances up to Under-17 level with England, bagging a goal and an assist for them as they beat Mexico in April.
A left-footed attacking midfielder, Nwaneri prefers to line up on the right-hand side from where he can cut inside his marker and go for goal with his favoured foot, or slip in an attacking runner.
He is fast filling out his frame, though, and is happy to play through the middle too where has has also proved an aerial threat at youth level.
How good is Nwaneri?
Nwaneri is certainly extremely promising, with his combination of pace, power and technique seeing him play up the Arsenal and England age groups throughout his career so far.
NEW handball rule announced by UEFA
He assisted Charles Sagoe Jr. for the third of four goals in a 4-1 win over Blackburn in Premier League 2 in March – his debut at that level – and is at least some of the reason the Gunners let Lucas Paqueta join West Ham from Lyon this summer.
Nwaneri is a calming presence who can be deployed either deeper or higher up the pitch. He has great close control, being able to turn and get away from opponents with ease.
He is dangerous in the final third, whether that be through dribbling or picking out a pass, making him an eventual replacement for Martin Odegaard.
“He’s improving daily,” Arteta said following Nwaneri’s performance against Bolton “You can tell he’s playing without pressure, with confidence, with a way of making decisions that tells you that the boy is ready at this level.
“Today he had a really strong performance and I’m happy to see that. There are a lot of positives to take from it: first of all the performance and then the way we scored the goals.
What clubs are interested in Nwaneri?
Premier League clubs are no longer allowed to sign overseas players under the age of 18 since Brexit, which will only drive interest in the homegrown Nwaneri up higher. But, in any case, no clubs have been linked so far.
