Pep Guardiola’s Displeasure with Ederson’s Audacious Cruyff Turn Attempt in Champions League Match Against Crvena Zvezda, yet the Brazilian Goalkeeper Escapes Unscathed

Ederson made Pep Guardiola’s heart leap a little with an audacious Cruyff turn during Manchester City’s Champions League clash with Crvena Zvezda.

The City manager looked displeased when he saw his Brazilian goalkeeper attempt the risky enterprise under pressure from an attacker in his own area.

It was 1-1 at the time, with Julian Alvarez having got the hosts back on level terms.

While Guardiola is known for encouraging his players to take risks in possession, Ederson’s antics have left him sweating in the past as he is sometimes too cool on the ball – to a dangerous extent.

Against Liverpool in April 2022, fans reacted with incredulity when he played his way out of trouble on the goal-line with Diogo Jota chasing him down after a poor touch.

Ultimately, Ederson’s daring behaviour did not matter to the Treble winners as they came from behind to win 3-1 against Crvena Zvezda thanks to a second-half double from Julian Alvarez and a goal from Rodri.

The Serbian champions – who went unbeaten in the league last season – took a surprise lead when Osman Bukari fired home on the cusp of half-time.

However, City kept their cool about them to overturn the deficit and earn three points on their return to the competition they won last season.

Elsewhere in their group, RB Leipzig claimed a 3-1 win at Swiss champions BSC Young Boys.
