That money could be spent on bringing in another star signing for the same cost that was previously spent on their investment in Jack Grealish when he joined from Aston Villa three-years ago which broke the then-British transfer record.
Another option could see them opt to pad out their squad with investment in players boasting future potential which is what they did with the former recruitment of Belgian talent Jeremy Doku.
Julian Alvarez’s decision to cut short his time at City and join Atletico Madrid in an £81m deal is regretted by Guardiola who wanted to keep the Argentine striker at the club.
Bringing in another centre-forward would likely provide some more rest time for Haaland – who is now City’s only recognised senior first-team striker.
Any injury to the Norwegian would leave Guardiola either needing to promote one of the club’s academy bright sparks into the demanding role or playing one of his other stars out of position.
