Ten years ago, Harrison Burrows was in the Wembley crowd, cheering on his Peterborough heroes as they lifted the EFL Trophy.
It was a day the 22-year-old Peterborough academy graduate and boyhood fan described as the ‘best day of my life’.
But, a decade later, that has been topped after writing himself into club legend by netting the most dramatic of late braces in the now-named Bristol Street Motors Trophy final against Wycombe to lead his side to glory.
Nothing had separated the teams before five minutes of madness.
As Ephron Mason-Clark, one of many talents destined for a higher level in this Posh side, laid the ball back to Burrows, the left back had one thought in his mind as he took a touch before firing past Franco Ravizzoli.
But, just as Peterborough’s name was being etched onto the trophy, a deep Wycombe free kick wasn’t dealt with and Dale Taylor, who had been introduced moments earlier, hit a stunning 25-yard volley with his first touch.
Peterborough hearts broke, but Burrows cajoled his players up the field and when a Posh corner was headed back to him, the left back delivered a ball full of typical quality.
All 40,000 inside Wembley gasped as it kept going before looping over the unfortunate Ravizzoli to hand Darren Ferguson’s side glory in this competition, 10 years after he oversaw their 2014 triumph.
