Celtic gave Bayern Munich an enormous fright in the Allianz Arena as the German giants scrapped past the Scottish champions with a stoppage-time goal.
There were some bitter disappointments from the nervy home side and the visitors were some monumental efforts from the brave visitors.
Here’s how they rated in Bavaria…
BAYERN MUNICH (4-2-3-1):
MANUEL NEUER – 5.5: Powerless for the goal and was largely let down by the defence in front of him. Had little to do outwith picking ball out the net.
JOSIP STANISIC – 4: Given a torrid time in the first 20 minutes by Jota. Gave the ball away for the goal. Charged forward but mostly wasteful.
Nicolas Kuhn keeps his cool to give Celtic the lead on the night away to Bayern Munich

DAYOT UPAMECANO – 5.5: Loose pass to Kuhn almost gifted Celtic a goal. Pace of visiting forwards troubled him but was strong in the air.
MIN-JAE KIM – 4.5: Didn’t do much wrong until the goal when his tackle failed to stop Kuhn. His lack of pace in the middle was exposed.
RAPHAEL GUERREIRO – 5.5: Cleared Kuhn’s shot off the line. Did okay in both defence and attack but quickly hooked after Celtic scored.
LEON GORETZKA – 5.5: Spurned big chance at the start of the second period. Unusually ruffled in the engine room. Headed good effort wide.
JOSHUA KIMMICH – 7: Quality range of passing was on show. Pulled a good chance wide but was the most composed player in a Bayern.
MICHAEL OLISE – 7: Terrific cross caused panic in the box in the final minute. Hero of the first leg pulled Bayern out of deep trouble.
JAMAL MUSIALA – 5.5: Master of finding pockets of space but did not get much change from a disciplined Celtic midfield and defence.
SERGE GNABRY – 3.5: Woefully ineffective and looked utterly disinterested at times. The least effective forward in a laboured Bayern frontline.
HARRY KANE – 5: Rattled the crossbar on the stroke of half-time. Injury doubt beforehand and taken off at half-time. Quiet night.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Coman (Kane 46),
Davies (Guerriero 64),
Sane (Gnabry 64),
Muller (Musiala 90).
MANAGER: VINCENT KOMPANY – 4.5: His side were laboured in attack and sloppy at the back. Fortunate to squeak through.
CELTIC (4-3-3):
KASPER SCHMEICHEL – 8.5: Inspired confidence with his passing out from the back and made a couple of huge saves. Really unlucky with the goal.
ALISTAIR JOHNSTON – 9: Some brilliant last-ditch defending. Fierce in the tackle and was at his tenacious best. Outstanding performance. Man of the match
CAMERON CARTER-VICKERS – 8: Goretzka darted past him once but rock-solid otherwise. Very unfortunate not to clear the ball for last-minute goal.
AUSTON TRUSTY – 8.5: Shuffled across well to help Schlupp when Bayern mainly probed down Celtic’s left. He was always close to Kane.
JEFFREY SCHLUPP – 7.5: Targeted in the first half but stood up to the challenge well. Kept his ex-Crystal Palace team-mate Olise under wraps.
ARNE ENGELS – 7: Worked hard and almost teed up Maeda for a first-half goal. Showed good passing quality and was strong in most areas.
CALLUM McGREGOR – 8: Good press to force first chance of the night but blazed over. Broke up play well and kept possession neatly.
REO HATATE – 8.5: Bundle of energy. Covered every blade of grass. Excellent on and off the ball. Relentless work rate set the tone.

Kasper Schmeichel is out quickly to smother an effort from Leon Goretzka
NICOLAS KUHN – 8: Saw effort cleared off the line. Great composure to break the deadlock. Ran himself into the ground. A real livewire.
DAIZEN MAEDA – 8: Relentless press put Bayern on edge. Wasted a big opening on 18 minutes but teed up Kuhn for a massive opening goal.
JOTA – 6.5: Carved out a glorious early opening for Kuhn with dazzling individual run. Faded a little in the start of the second half.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Idah (Jota 60),
Yang (Kuhn 69).
MANAGER: BRENDAN RODGERS – 8.5: A coming-of-age European display from his side. Fell short with a heroic collective effort.
REFEREE: Benoit Bastien (France) – 7.5: Let the game flow and produced no cards. How we can only wish for this type of officiating in Scotland and England.
