Premier League star announces new club with Bill Clinton cameo

Forgotten Premier League striker Clinton Njie was unveiled as a new signing of Romanian club Rapid Bucharest in a bizarre video which featured former US president Bill Clinton.

Njie spent a season in north London with Tottenham after joining from Lyon for more than £8million in 2015. Unfortunately for all involved, his time in the capital was a failure.

The forward made just eight Premier League appearances for the side, all as a substitute, with him unable to register a goal in any of his outings.

Now 31, the Cameroonian international found himself without a club before penning a deal with Rapid, who finished sixth in Romania’s 16-team top flight last term.

Perhaps in an attempt to capitalise on the interest in the upcoming US election in November, the outfit opted to put a rather strange political slant on their announcement of the striker.

The club posted a video on social media which began with a clip of former US president Bill Clinton delivering an impassioned speech. The footage then cuts to Njie, who for some reason, says: ‘I am the real Clinton.’

Rapid fans are then greeted with a montage of the striker scoring for some of his former clubs including Marseille.

Njie told Rapid’s website: ‘I’m happy to be here – it’s a pleasure for me to join one of the biggest clubs in Romania.

‘I saw how much the club wanted me to come here, and it was easy for me to make a decision. I’m excited to start working at Rapid.

Despite his unhappy spell with Spurs, Njie has still manage to earn 44 caps for his national team and he helped win the Africa Cup of Nations in 2017.
