Ray Parlour apologizes for insensitive video before Downing beer and Jager

Ray Parlour has issued an apology online after he posted a video paying tribute to Kevin Campbell after the former Arsenal and Everton footballer passed away, aged 54.

Tributes have been flooding in for the former footballer after it was announced on Saturday that he had sadly passed away. It came after Everton had announced earlier in June that Campbell had been ‘very unwell’.

Several of his former team-mates, including Ian Wright and Wayne Rooney paid their respects online.

Parlour had also issued his tributes to his former team-mate, writing on X (formerly Twitter): ‘Devastated hearing the news this morning RIP Kevin.

‘Great player and even nicer Fella. Thoughts with his family at this tough time.’

Parlour had also posted a now-deleted video of himself on X (formerly Twitter) as a tribute to Campbell.

He appeared to make the tribute to his former team-mate but later in the video appears to pour himself a mixture of Jagermeister and beer – before drinking the drink.

The 51-year-old deleted the video from his X timeline, before publishing a message online.

He said on X: ‘I apologise if I have upset anyone in my last post. I wholeheartedly didn’t mean to come across as insensitive.

‘I loved Kevin and I’m honestly devastated for his family and friends at this terrible time.

‘I’m sending all my love to them and anyone who came across this amazing man.’

Parlour and Campbell played together 75 while they were playing for Arsenal, with both having risen through the youth ranks at the north London club.

Arsenal posted a tribute to the former player on Saturday, writing:’We are devastated to learn that our former striker Kevin Campbell has died after a short illness.
