Real Betis CEO reveals that Antony transfer from Manchester United could be made permanent in summer after Brazilian's impressive start to life in Spain

Real Betis’ CEO has expressed his interest in making Antony’s transfer permanent after the Manchester United outcast made a positive start to life in Spanish football.

The Brazilian international, 24, joined Betis on loan until the end of the season in the January transfer window after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim.

However, he has shown glimpses of quality at Betis in registering a goal and an assist in his first two appearances for Los Verdiblancos.

He was also named Player of the Match on his debut for the club against Athletic Club in a 2-2 draw.

This came after he was able to notch just 12 goals over 96 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils following an £82million move in August 2022, which reunited him with Erik ten Hag, who coached him at Ajax.

Once ten Hag was dismissed in November, Antony became sparsely used by his successor Amorim, who preferred to deploy wing-backs in wide areas.

Speaking to Cadena Ser’s Radio Sevilla, Betis CEO Ramon Alarcon said that Antony could be a part of his team’s squad beyond the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

‘I think so,’ he said when asked about the possibility of the transfer being made permanent in the summer.

Alarcon added: ‘The other day the CEO of United called me. We sent them all the moves and details of the player throughout the week so that they can see that we are looking after their asset.

‘There is very good chemistry with Manchester [United] and with the player. It is a possibility that he will continue next season, why not?’

Antony’s loan deal does not contain a clause with an obligation to buy, which means that Betis must negotiate a transfer fee with United should they want Antony on a permanent basis.

Although United did part with a hefty sum to sign him, a permanent move away could suit the club as they look to recoup some of their initial outlay.

Antony will be hoping to continue his good form for Betis in their next fixture, which sees them visit Belgian side Gent in the first leg of their Europa Conference League play-off on Thursday night.

United, meanwhile, will return to action on Sunday, when they visit fellow Premier League strugglers Tottenham.
