Liverpool rode their luck to beat PSG 1-0 and take a big step towards the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday night.
PSG had 27 shots on goal to Liverpool’s two, and Alisson was forced to make no fewer than nine saves to keep the French champions at bay before substitute Harvey Elliott fired home the match-winning goal in the 87th minute.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher admitted the Reds’ win was ‘one of the biggest robberies you will ever see in football’, with Arne Slot’s men now having a lead to take back to Anfield next week.
The victory continued Liverpool’s remarkable record against European giants since Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp last summer.
In his first season at the helm, Slot’s Liverpool have played the reigning league champions of England, Germany, Spain and France a combined total of five times and have won every game without conceding a single goal.
They have secured successive 2-0 wins over Manchester City in the Premier League, while they thrashed Bayer Leverkusen 4-0 in the league phase of the Champions League back in November.

The Reds were indebted to Alisson after he made nine saves to keep a clean sheet in Paris

Arne Slot’s men have now beaten the reigning league champions of England, Germany, Spain and France without conceding a goal this season
Just three weeks after beating Leverkusen, Liverpool breezed past Real Madrid 2-0 at Anfield on their way to sealing top spot in the Champions League standings.
Having dominated the league phase, Liverpool were arguably a little unfortunate to be paired with an in-form PSG in the last-16, but still managed to overcome the Ligue 1 champions and kept another clean sheet thanks to Alisson.
Should Liverpool continue their brilliant run against Europe’s best in next Tuesday’s return leg, they will progress to the quarter-finals and stay in the hunt for a Treble.
A last-eight meeting with Aston Villa could await them, while a rematch with Real may be on the cards in the semi-finals.
Liverpool have suffered heartbreak at the hands of Los Blancos over the years, having lost to them in the 2018 and 2022 Champions League finals.
Yet their big-game record under Slot is impeccable, and should give them belief that they can make it all the way to Munich to lift a seventh European Cup in May.
