Former Manchester United star Mason Greenwood is reportedly enjoying a quiet life abroad since joining Marseille in July.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a flying start in Ligue 1, starring in a side managed by former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi.

Greenwood currently sits second in the league’s scoring charts, having netted 13 times whilst contributing three assists across 21 appearances for Les Olympiens this season.

According to a report from The Sun, despite feeling that his career in England is over the 23-year-old is enjoying his time in the south of France, where he is said to face less scrutiny from supporters.

A source told the publication: ‘He got one cap for England and it’s unlikely he will ever add to that.

‘The scrutiny he faces in England would be a million times more than he’s had in France. For instance, he was once walking into a petrol station and someone called him a rapist and videoed it.

‘That doesn’t happen in Marseille where he’s most likely to be stopped and told what a great player he is.

‘He’s not being asked questions by the press and can focus on his football.’

It was decided he would leave Man United after he was arrested in January 2022 before being charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour.

Charges against Greenwood were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service following the ‘withdrawal of key witnesses and new material coming to light’.

Greenwood welcomed the birth of his second child with partner Harriet Robson earlier this week, after the pair revealed their first child, daughter Summer, in July 2023.

On Wednesday, Greenwood shared a photo of Harriet holding Summer at a Marseille match.

Both Harriet and Summer were pictured with Greenwood’s name and No 10 on the back of their shirts.

He wrote: ‘Happy birthday to the best partner and mum we love you.’

The report further claimed that Greenwood has matured during his time plying his trade on the continent and has become something a homebody.

‘In France, he’s got good influences around him,’ the source continued.

‘Manchester is a small city and you might wonder about whether the people who surrounded him there had his best interests at heart.

‘In Marseille he will be going out with teammates and not really hanging about with anyone else.

‘They are older, more mature, more sophisticated and appear more protective of him. If they go out for a team meal, Mason isn’t likely to end up partying.’

Greenwood made his solitarily senior appearance for England as a substitute in a 1-0 win over Iceland in the UEFA Nations League in August 2020.

Since then the forward has reportedly considered switching allegiances to represent Jamaica, with Reggae Boyz head coach Steve McClaren reportedly convincing him on the move.
