Rio Ferdinand has explained why Rasmus Hojlund has struggled for Manchester United this season.
Hojlund has endured a difficult campaign so far, scoring just two Premier League goals in 20 appearances.
The Danish striker is currently on a 15-match goal drought, with his last strike coming against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League in December.
And Ferdinand believes Hojlund needs to change his approach if he’s to improve his performances.
‘Confidence has obviously left the building in terms of the striker department. They haven’t got great option in terms of numbers either,’ the former defender said ahead of United’s clash with Everton.
‘One of the things with Hojlund, watching him I get frustrated because he’s always trying to fight the defender and have contact.

‘Sometimes release yourself from contact so when you have someone against you it’s easier to take the ball and get into areas where you’ll affect the game, in between the posts and in the box.
United’s attack has been left depleted after Amad Diallo was ruled out for the remainder of the season, while Marcus Rashford and Antony both departed in January.
Speaking on the side’s struggles, former Everton striker Duncan Ferguson added: ‘The centre forwards needs to run away from the ball. If you continue to come towards the ball you’re not scoring.
‘They need to run away from the ball and get themselves in areas to score goals. Man United need to create more chances.
‘Man United don’t score goals. They’re one of the lowest goal scoring teams in the league, quite incredible really for the history of Man United to not create chances and score goals.’
