Sean Dyche has confirmed that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will miss Everton’s game against Wolves this weekend after suffering a facial injury last week.

The forward was taken off during the Toffees’ 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa after colliding with Emi Martinez in the first half of their Premier League clash.

The clash of heads in the 36th minute of the game left the English striker with a sizeable welt on his face and he was forced off the pitch as a result.

Dyche has no revealed that Calvert-Lewin will now undergo further assessment with a specialist on Friday and that he will miss Saturday’s game against Wolves.

Speaking at Everton’s pre-match press conference, Dyche said: ‘First things first, he’s [Calvert-Lewin] seeing a specialist tomorrow.

‘The specialist advice was he needed the swelling to settle down so unfortunately he will miss the weekend but that’s part of him hopefully getting the right answer and the protocols we need to follow.’

The news comes as a blow to the Everton supporters as the Toffees will be without one of their star players for their third Premier League game.

Everton need all the help they can get at the moment after suffering a disappointing start to the 2023-2024 Premier League campaign with two defeats.

They have conceded five goals and failed to find the back of the net during their opening two games – leaving Dyche’s side bottom of the table.

The absence of Calvert-Lewin could see the Toffees rely on Neal Maupay – who has scored just one goal since his arrival from Brighton last summer.
