Sky Sports reporter gets manhandled by security while interviewing Feyenoord boss Arne Slot about the Liverpool job

A Sky Sports reporter was mandhandled as he tried to catch a word with Liverpool’s latest managerial sweetheart, Feyenoord boss Arne Slot.

Slot has emerged as the number one contender to succeed Jurgen Klopp and talks are developing quickly with Liverpool, who could even complete a deal this weekend. They might pay more than £10million in compensation for him.

Journalist Gary Cotterill grabbed a moment with Slot after he exited Feyenoord’s team bus ahead of their Eredivisie match with Go Ahead Eagles tonight, but he had to be wary of getting too close.

A member of Slot’s entourage had his hand on his shoulder and eventually put himself between Cotterill and the Dutchman, cutting short their chat.

For Liverpool fans, the fact that Slot was smiling when asked about his links to the club is an encouraging sign.

The 45-year-old won the Eredivisie last season and has delivered a KNVB Cup to Feyenoord’s trophy cabinet this season.

His possession-base, attacking, pressing style has earned him flattering comparisons to Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola, and Johan Cruyff.

And he was more than happy to entertain conversation with Sky Sports, all while staying focused on his task ahead.

‘You’re in the news,’ said Cotterill as he greeted Slot.

‘I am,’ admitted a beaming Slot.

‘You said you wanted to go to the Premier League. Is it a possibility?’ he was asked.

‘I can’t deny that,’ Slot responded.

‘Liverpool want you though,” Cotterill said as Slot walked away.

‘But tonight we are playing Go Ahead Eagles,’ came the response.

Cotterill gave his good luck wishes and Slot thanked him.

With Jurgen Klopp stepping down at the end of the season, Liverpool have been looking through a carousel of managers to replace him.

The dream candidate at the beginning was Xabi Alonso, a former Red who has managed Bayer Leverkusen to their first Bundesliga title and a currently unbeaten season.

However, with Alonso affirming his intention to stay in Germany, hearts turned to Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim, who has the Portuguese club on course for a second league title in four years.

Liverpool’s interest in Amorim has cooled, however, and he flew in to London for talks with West Ham earlier this week.
