Southgate set for massive bonus if England win Euro 2024

The Football Association is guaranteed to receive at least €24.25million (£20.36m) in prize money from UEFA based on England’s performance at Euro 2024.

Every team in the tournament was given a €9.25m participation fee, plus €1m for every win and €500,000 for every draw during the group stage. England beat Serbia in Group C before drawing with Denmark and Slovenia.

Getting out of the group saw England earn a further €1.5m, followed by €2.5m for making it to the quarter-final. The prize for reaching the semis was then €4m.

England’s final payment will be €5m if they lose to Spain. But it will be €8m if they win, which would take their overall total to €27.25m (£22.88m).

But how will the FA distribute this prize money?

According to The Sun, if England win Euro 2024 then the FA will pay out around £9.6m in prize money to players, with each member of the 26-man squad taking home £369,000.

Meanwhile, it is claimed that manager Gareth Southgate will get a £4m bonus if he leads the Three Lions to victory in Berlin – which is said to be more than 10 times the amount that Spain boss Luis de la Fuente stands to receive if his team come out on top.

Those figures also suggest that Southgate’s bonus payout will be worth more than 10 times that of each of his players.

Southgate has been in charge of the England men’s national team since September 2016.

The 53-year-old is under contract until December but the FA wants him him to stay on beyond the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

There had been a growing feeling that Southgate would leave his position after the Euros amid discontent from the fan base towards his stewardship.

But England’s euphoric run to this weekend’s final in Berlin has reaffirmed the FA’s stance that Southgate remains the best person for the job.
