Toni Kroos will return to the football field for the first time since announcing his retirement later this month.
The midfielder had hoped to inspire Germany to victory in their home European Championship, having already helped Real Madrid lift their 15th Champions League at Wembley.
But Kroos and his team-mates were ultimately outdone by eventual winners Spain and the veteran was forced to wave goodbye to the sport that he helped transform.
However, just seven months on, Kroos has been announced as the newest addition to the ‘Icon League’.
The competition consists of seven five-a-side rosters that compete in short games, with all match days of the regular season taking place in Dusseldorf’s Castello.
The new season get underway on March 10 and will include 13 match days. Many high-profile stars of Germany football are taking part and captaining various squads.

These include the German national players Robert Andrich and Antonio Rudiger, the ex-Bayern stars Franck Ribery and David Alaba, ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl and commentator Wolff Fuss.
Kroos’ participation was announced in an Instagram post from the league that showed him staring at his iconic Adidas boot, with the caption ‘One more dance’.
It will not be the first time Kroos has featured in the tournament. In the league’s debut season, the 35-year-old turned out for the club ‘B2B United’. It has not been revealed who he will play for this time around.
