Trent-Alexander Arnold has delivered Liverpool some hope that he will sign a new contract at the club by speaking in glowing terms about Arne Slot.

Alexander-Arnold’s future is very much up for discussion currently as his contract at Liverpool expires in 2025.

Contract talks have not been going well and last week it was widely reported in Spain that Alexander-Arnold had rejected Liverpool’s latest offer.

Time is now running out for Liverpool to get Trent to sign a new deal before he is able to discuss pre contracts with new clubs from January.

Real Madrid have been long-term admirers of Alexander-Arnold and see the right back as the long-term successor to the ageing Dani Carvajal.

However, Alexander-Arnold has given Liverpool hope that he plans to extend and reject Madrid’s advances.

Speaking after Liverpool’s 3-1 win over AC Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday, Alexander-Arnold said he was excited about the plans in place under new manager Slot.

What did Alexander-Arnold say?

“For me, it was just an excitement to work under a new manager that I’ve never had before,” Alexander-Arnold said of Slot, who succeeded Jurgen Klopp as coach this summer.

“Having spoken to the manager, I was excited about the plans and the way they talk about it.”

Liverpool are determined to keep Trent as they are already expected to lose Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk next summer when their deals expire.

Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool

Alexander-Arnold was born in Liverpool and grew up in the club’s youth academy from the age of six.

He made his senior debut for Liverpool at the age of 18 in 2016 and went on to become a key player in Jurgen Klopp’s successful era at the club.

Famed for his brilliant right-foot, vision and long cross-field passes, Alexander Arnold has made over 300 appearances for Liverpool.

He has won seven trophies with Liverpool, including the 2019 Champions League and 2020 Premier League.

He has been capped 31 times by England but under previous manager Gareth Southgate never had the same trust from his country as he has had at his club.
