The reports state that Arsenal’s interest in Gomes has “intensified following the injury to their Norwegian captain Martin Odegaard.” It’s also stated that the head coach is a fan of the Englishman, believing that he would be a “valuable addition” to the club’s midfield.

Newcastle and Aston Villa also deem Gomes as a cost-effective option. which comes as a bit of a surprise considering how well-stacked both clubs are in that position.

How good is Gomes?

Gomes was recently singled out by former Lille manager Paulo Fonseca for his intelligence, who said: “Angel is maybe the most intelligent player I have in my team. He understands faster than the others everything about the game; he loves the game.”

While the man himself said this about making a return to England:

“Do I imagine myself coming back one day? Obviously, it’s home,” Gomes told French outlet L’Equipe in 2022, via the Metro.

“I would love to come back. But you never know in football. I just have to keep my feet on the ground, and keep playing, making the most of it. I can’t predict what will happen in the future.”
