Barcelona are eyeing a summer move for Crystal Palace full-back Daniel Munoz, according to Spanish and Colombian media.

The Blaugrana believe that they have overcome the worst of their financial troubles and that things are finally looking up now thanks to their financial ‘levers’ and their revised partnership with Nike.

While concerns over player registrations have not entirely disappeared, Barcelona are confident and bullish that they will be able to bring in significant reinforcements in the summer transfer window.

The Blaugrana enjoyed a sparkling start to the current campaign, but a drop-off in performance levels towards the end of 2024, particularly in LaLiga, now has them sitting four points behind league leaders Real Madrid.

This seemed unthinkable at one point in the season as Los Blancos had initially been miles off the pace, so the fact that Barcelona could now miss out on the LaLiga title and potentially finish as low as third – although there’s still a long way to go – is a nightmare scenario.

To avoid a repeat of this in future seasons, the Catalans will dip into the market in the summer.

Barcelona eye Munoz

According to Mundo Deportivo and Antena 2, Barcelona have identified a somewhat surprising target to bolster their defensive ranks. It is claimed that Daniel Munoz of Crystal Palace has emerged as a credible right-back option.

Jules Kounde has had this position locked down all season, but the Frenchman has never made a secret of the fact that he prefers to play centrally. He also made a couple of uncharacteristic mistakes during Barcelona’s poor run of results.

As for Munoz, he has been loving life under Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace. The Eagles endured a slow start to the season after losing Michael Olise and Joachim Andersen, but they have been one of the Premier League’s in-form teams since October.

Munoz’s exploits as a marauding full-back, who has contributed two goals and three assists, haven’t gone unnoticed at Barcelona and, indeed, even at other clubs like Chelsea and Man City – although at 28 years of age, he seems an unusual target for the latter two.
