The Scottish Premiership champions have been busy in the transfer market this summer, bringing in goalkeepers Viljami Sinisalo and Kasper Schmeichel as well as Paulo Bernardo from Benfica, while a move for Ireland striker Adam Idah is almost complete.

We are told that Bhoys boss Brendan Rodgers is also keen to add further strength to his midfield and has targeted dynamic Augsburg midfielder Engels as a key addition to the team.

The 20-year-old has played in a variety of positions since arriving in the Bundesliga in January 2023, initially playing as a defensive midfielder and then playing more advanced and even as a winger during the 2023-24 season.

Engels’ 50 games in the Bundesliga attracted the attention of Belgium manager Domenico Tedesco, who brought the midfielder up to train with the national squad ahead of Euro 2024.

Engels wanted by Celtic

Celtic have also been aware of Engels’ talents, with his versatility making him one of the standout performers for Augsburg as they finished 11th in the German top flight last season.

The Bavarian club will definitely look to cash in on one of their prized assets, especially after his impressive rise in Expected Transfer Value which now puts his ETV range between €7.1m and €11.9m.

The sale of the midfielder would be a big coup for Augsburg, who have only sold five players for double-figure millions in their history, three of which were in the last two summers, including USMNT international Ricardo Pepi to PSV Eindhoven for €11m and Bosnian striker Ermedin Demirovic to fellow Bundesliga side Stuttgart this summer.
