Chelsea are set to sign Barcelona striker Marc Guiu, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues’ months-long search for a new striker for the first team is coming to an end. After moving on from Victor Osimhen and being snubbed by Benjamin Sesko, Chelsea are on the verge of adding Marc Guiu to their ranks.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the transfer is ‘here we go’ done, with the west London giants having reached a verbal agreement with the player’s agents. Additionally, Chelsea have informed Barcelona of their intention to trigger his bargain €6 million release clause.

The Blaugrana, for their part, had tried to get rid of said clause by offering the 18-year-old a bumper new contract that would have brought him in line with some big earners at the club.

However, Chelsea now appear to have won the race, also beating competition from Bayern, after presenting the teenager their project. As things stand, Guiu is not expected to be farmed out to Ligue 1 sister club Strasbourg.

Chelsea’s striker search

With Guiu set to join Chelsea’s first team, this likely means that the Blues’ pursuit of a new striker is over. Omari Kellyman has still to join from Aston Villa for over €20 million, but it is doubtful whether the 18-year-old will be integrated into the senior side straight away.

In recent days, Chelsea had also moved for Samu Omorodion of Atletico Madrid, but the LaLiga giants showed themselves unwilling to entertain offers for the promising striker. The Blues have also been in talks with Lille sharpshooter Jonathan David after cooling their interest in Jhon Duran.

Just a few weeks ago, Chelsea were seen as the favourites to sign €130m Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, but Nicolas Jackson’s decent first season and the club and the belief that Christopher Nkunku will hit double figures next term convinced the club brass that they do not need to spend an exorbitant fee on a proven number nine.
