Chelsea make fresh Ben Chilwell decision
Chelsea want to sell Ben Chilwell during the January transfer window, despite his recent re-introduction back into the first-team fold at Stamford Bridge.
The England defender was placed in Chelsea’s Bomb Squad following Enzo Maresca’s arrival this summer, but he was unable to secure a transfer away from the club.
Manchester United and Brentford were both briefly linked with a move for Chilwell, while multiple Turkish clubs expressed an interest without submitting a concrete bid.
Chelsea told what Osimhen ‘really wants’
As a result, the ex-Leicester City stay remained at Chelsea, and although he has now returned to first-team training, the Blues are still hoping to sell Chilwell in January.
He is yet to feature in a Premier League matchday squad this season, while his substitute cameo against Barrow in the Carabao Cup last week is his only appearance so far this campaign.
Marc Cucurella is currently Chelsea’s first-choice left-back, with summer signing Renato Veiga playing back-up to the Spain international.
How is Samu Omorodion doing after failed Chelsea transfer?
With Chilwell subjected to an extremely reduced role at Chelsea, the Blues are now hoping to sell him during the January transfer window, according to The Mirror.
The 27-year-old has just under three years remaining on his existing deal with the west London club, while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €19.2 million.
What has Enzo Maresca said?
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, Maresca admitted: “In the moment we need him [Chilwell], for sure, why not?
“I will say again, at the moment he is with us, he is one of the Chelsea players and one of our players. If we need to, we will give him chances and minutes.
“We all make mistakes. I had to make a decision; sometimes they are good and sometimes not. There is not any bad intention from me. It was just to try and think of the best thing for the club.”
