Erling Haaland is set to become a father imminently, with the Manchester City striker confirming the news on his social media channels.

Speculation over Haaland’s long-term future at the Premier League champions has swirled for months, and this was quelled to some extent earlier in the week as he was spotted house hunting with girlfriend Isabel Haugseng Johansen, looking at a mansion put up for sale by Southampton striker Danny Ings.

It appears, however, that Haaland and his partner are simply looking for a new place to raise their family.

The former Borussia Dortmund and Red Bull Salzburg striker, who is 24-year-old, confirmed this on X by posting an image of himself with the ball up his shirt and a thumb in his mouth accompanied by a baby emoji with ‘soon’ next to it.

When Haugseng Johansen, 20, was exiting the stadium after Norway’s 3-0 win over Slovenia on Thursday, she was asked by Dagbladet about how Haaland will do as a father and simply replied: “Very good.”

He is the second of Norway’s major stars to recently announce that he is expecting, with Martin Odegaard and girlfriend Helene Spilling also set to become parents. Odegaard was absent due to injury for the Slovenia clash, however.

Sander Berge has revealed the pregnancy could be quite far along.

“I’ve known forever,” the Fulham midfielder laughed. “I’ve known for quite a while. It was in the summer. It’s wonderful news.

“But I’m very happy for him. I’m very close to him. It’s nice to think he’s going to be a parent with his partner.”

Haaland breaks Norway record

Haaland had double reason to celebrate on Thursday, having broken a 90-year-old record to become Norway’s record goalscorer.

The Manchester City striker scored twice as his nation claimed a comfortable victory, carrying him to 34 all-time goals for his country in just 36 appearances.

This has eclipsed the efforts of Jorgen Juve, who scored 33 times for Norway in the early 20th century.

No one has previously got close to that mark, with John Carew, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Tore Andre Flo, all established Premier League strikers at their peak, only mustering in the low 20s.
