Fabrizio Romano has dropped a major update over transfer rumours linking Victor Osimhen to Manchester United in the January transfer window.

Osimhen finds himself on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli after he was unable to find a suitable permanent move in the summer.

Chelsea came closest to landing the Nigeria international but their interest seems to have cooled, while Arsenal’s desire to sign the 25-year-old, who is under contract until 2026 and has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €57 million, also seems to have eased.

PSG were the other club close to landing Osimhen earlier in 2024 and the Parisians appear to be the greatest danger to Man Utd signing the forward. Luis Enrique’s side are in need of a clinical finisher and are reportedly eyeing a January move.

Similarly, the Red Devils need more firepower and have been rumoured to be mulling over a January move for Osimhen.

Now football transfer news expert Romano has dismissed these claims.

“I’m not aware of concrete talks taking place, despite links with Man United,” he told GiveMeSport.

“The situation remains quiet at the moment. The only way to change it is triggering the clause into his Napoli contract (he’s on loan at Galatasaray) and also reaching an agreement on salary close to €11m net per season. Not an easy one.”

Osimhen to Arsenal

United are thought to be on a relatively tight budget during the January transfer window because of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Certainly, there is little prospect of the Red Devils spending the type of money required to buy Osimhen outright at this juncture of the season. It will reportedly take in the region of €80m.

Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim certainly goes into January with more than his share of headaches following a 2-0 loss to Wolves, during which captain Bruno Fernandes was sent-off for the third time already this season.

Reinforcements like Osimhen are required to make the Old Trafford side competitive again, but without major sales first, such deals appear impossible.
