Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Lucas Gourna-Douath has been billed as the new ‘Paul Pogba’ following his sparkling form in the Austrian Bundesliga.
The youngster has been linked to a number of clubs ahead of 2024, with Arsenal and Tottenham each linked to the dynamic midfielder.
The Frenchman’s ability to contribute efficiently in both attack and defence has drawn comparisons to Pogba and N’Golo Kante, two of the players he idolises, despite just being 20 years old.
Everything points to a stunning career for Gourna-Douath, but what has he said about his future?
What has Gourna-Douath said about his future?
Speaking to RB Salzburg’s official site, he said: “I like N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba, as they are also French and play in my kind of position. I try to have various idols, no matter if they play in my position or not. I like players who can be depended on to lead a team, like Vincent Kompany, Patrick Vieira or Claude Makelele, for instance.”
“I love playing in full stadiums where there are a lot of fans against us. That only motivates me even more. That’s part of my personality. I am not shy, and I don’t hide away, whether on the ball or in life. I think that’s a quality you need to make it to the top. We all need to help one another in the team.”
“I always wanted to win titles in my career, and I hope I can manage it here. To win the Bundesliga with FC Red Bull Salzburg is the number one priority – the entire team will give their all for it!”
Speaking to L’Equipe, Gourna-Douath mentioned that he would like to take up coaching in the future.
He said: “”When I was little they called me the ‘journalist’ (laughs). I’m interested in everything. I watch Ligue 1 games, study a lot of players and read books about coaches. I love this job. The work of a trainer fascinates me.”
