Christian Eriksen has confirmed to Danish media that he will leave Manchester United next summer.

The midfielder has enjoyed something of a career revival this season, becoming a surprise starter after Casemiro’s nightmare performance in the derby against Liverpool.

Up until his costly mistake in the Europa League draw with Twente Enschede – a game in which he also scored a brilliant goal – Eriksen was arguably Man Utd’s best midfielder of the season.

Man Utd make ‘contact’ with Tuchel

Despite this, the 32-year-old is facing an uncertain future. His contract expires at the end of the season and an extension does not appear to be forthcoming.

Speaking to Bold, Eriksen is said to have confirmed as much, with the outlet writing: “As he has stated to Bold, the parties are not talking about extending the collaboration further.”

Eriksen to leave Man Utd

Continuing the discussion on his future, Eriksen stated that the search for a new club will be influenced by his ambition to continue playing for Denmark, seemingly implying that he is not yet ready to leave Europe.

“It will be a bit of a balancing act,” he said. “I’m not getting any younger either, so those considerations are going to be part of an overall decision about where you stand in your career, where you’re going, where the national team is and all those sorts of things.”

Man Utd to miss NINE players for Brentford

This is a new experience for the midfielder as he previously almost exclusively featured for elite sides. “I have never given it a thought because I have played for Tottenham and Inter. When I came to Brentford, of course, I had to prove that I could play football again, but I had made my name, and then I came to United after.”

According to The Sun, Eriksen could make a return to Ajax in the summer. The Dutch giants were linked with him in the previous window, but a move did not materialise. This could change in 2025.
