Diego Leon will complete his Manchester United medical ‘in the next few days,’ according to his agent.

The Ruben Amorim era at Old Trafford has not started in the way many had expected when the club announced the appointment of one of the most highly regarded young coaches in European football.

Man Utd’s squad have struggled to come to grips with Amorim’s style and results have taken a turn for the worse in recent weeks, with the club losing four consecutive games.

The January transfer window could therefore be crucial to help Amorim put his stamp on the team. However, the club’s issues when it comes to Profit and Sustainability Rules are well-known and will hamstring the Portuguese and the recruitment team.

Nevertheless, the first exciting signing of the Amorim era is on the verge of being completed, though it won’t be an immediate reinforcement.

Leon set to sign

For several weeks, it has been known that Man Utd would sign Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno this month. It has been widely confirmed in his native Paraguay and by people close to him that he is on his way to England.

Now, Man Utd fans have received a major update on the situation, with his agent Renato Bittar announcing that the 17-year-old will have his medical ‘in the next few days.’

Journalist Bruno Pont has posted the following on X: “Speaking to Renato Bittar, he confirmed that in the next few days, he and Diego Leon will travel to Manchester, where the player will undergo medical tests.”

This means that a deal is close to being wrapped up, though Leon won’t be able to join Man Utd until the summer as he only turns 18 in April, meaning that he will not be an immediate reinforcement for Amorim.

Man Utd are expected to pay between €3.8 million and €5m for the left-back.
