Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund will rediscover his form sooner rather than later, according to Denmark boss Brian Riemer, who also singled out Patrick Dorgu for praise.

While Hojlund is in the headlines for the wrong reasons, Dorgu has impressed a figure who admitted to harbouring doubts over his abilities just a matter of weeks ago.

The striker has failed to net since 12 December in a Europa League clash with Viktoria Plzen while he has only scored seven goals in what has been a difficult campaign.

“Rasmus Hojlund’s form speaks for itself. I can’t say anything else, because you know the numbers,” he told Ekstra Bladet.

“I would prefer to select a team where the players are bursting with self-confidence and in top form. But sometimes you also have to compromise. My job is to find the balance of how many of those who are not in top form I can select.

“I think Rasmus Hojlund really benefits from coming here and getting some national love.”

Riemer added: “I’m not worried at all. Rasmus is a strong character. I’ve been in close contact with him.

“I’ve been in this game for many years. That’s football. It goes up and down. I don’t know any striker who hasn’t been in scoring crises.

’Dorgu has really convinced me’

Dorgu, Man Utd’s only January signing, has exceeded expectations in his early weeks at Old Trafford, with even Denmark boss Riemer admitting that he has been left surprised by the form of the former Lecce player.

“Dorgu has really convinced me. I was a bit sceptical at Lecce, because when I watched the games, he was more of a winger than a full-back, and his defensive skills were questionable,” he said. “But I’ve seen him a few times now, and I’m really impressed with what he’s done defensively. He has convinced me.

“There are still little things that can be improved, but he’s been up to the task in the best league in the world.”

Dorgu and Hojlund are expected to be in action on Thursday, when Man Utd tackle Real Sociedad in the last 16 of the Europa League.
