Real Madrid reach Alexander-Arnold agreement as €40m January transfer confirmed
Real Madrid have completed an agreement with Trent Alexander-Arnold that will see the Liverpool right-back depart Anfield for the Bernabeu in the summer as a free agent while a significant January signing is planned.
Alexander-Arnold has long been linked with a switch to Carlo Ancelotti’s side, with no new contract with the Reds in sight.
Now El Chiriguito reports that a deal for the 26-year-old has been concluded with the player.
Josep Pedrerol, who is close to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, has confirmed the deal.
“Alexander-Arnold has closed an agreement to join Real Madrid in June,” he said. “There are still some minor details, but if nothing happens, he will play for Real Madrid next season and will arrive on a free transfer.”
A January transfer, though, appears unlikely.
“There is the possibility that Liverpool will lower their demands [in January] but this seems very difficult because Liverpool are fighting for everything,” he added. “To let a starting full-back go now would be very complicated.
“Real Madrid are not going to spend €70-80 million, which is the figure that Liverpool are considering, for him to arrive now.”
Real Madrid plot €40m January signing
Real Madrid find themselves in the midst of a crisis in the right-back area, with Dani Carvajal out for the season due to injury and Ancelotti unwilling to push Fede Valverde into the role in key games for fear of losing his influence in midfield.
As such, they will spend to buy a player for that role this month.

Pedrerol said: “Real Madrid are going to try to sign someone to join them in January but will not go over €30-40m. That is the maximum figure.
“So we’re at the point where Alexander-Arnold will arrive at Real Madrid in the summer, but he could arrive this month provided that Liverpool lower their demands to €35m, maybe €40m.
“It’s done for June, it’s a possibility for January.”
Running contrary to these claims is a report from Relevo that states that Real Madrid have given up signing Trent Alexander-Arnold during the winter transfer window.
