Manchester United are poised to sack manager Erik ten Hag following Saturday’s FA Cup final with Manchester City, with esteemed journalist Henry Winter branding the timing of the news “grim” for the Dutchman.
A report from the Guardian indicates that no matter the outcome of the fixture, Ten Hag will be shown the door at Old Trafford following the game.
Winter says it promises to be a “humiliating” conclusion to the former Ajax coach’s stay at Man Utd.

“This decision is probably the right decision, but the timing of it is just grim,” Winter explained on a post on X.
“You can just imagine how the Manchester City fans are going to react when they see Erik ten Hag come out the tunnel at Wembley. ’Sacked in the morning!’ They going to sign it during the match as well.
“It’s pretty humiliating, the timing and the substance of it for Ten Hag.

“There has to be some sympathy for him on a human level going into a match like this. He’s going to make his final team talk to his players and they’re going to be looking at him knowing that they’re probably won’t be around in a week or so.
“There has to be sympathy over the terrible injuries they’ve had this season. But with those injuries, performances have been poor and results have been poor.”
Ten Hag led Man Utd to third in the Premier League last term but has struggled to get a handle on the squad this time around, with their hopes of playing in Europe next term resting on beating Premier League champions in this one-off match.
It is unclear who will replace the Dutchman at Old Trafford, though Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna, a former Man Utd coach, and outgoing Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino are among the favourites.
