Messi’s eldest son Thiago is playing in Inter Miami’s academy and will look to follow in his father’s massive footsteps eventually. The 11-year-old recently spoke to Jose Ramon de la Morena in Orlando and was asked about his father’s career – and his own.

Thiago admitted that, unlike his father, he needs to improve his left foot. “Playing makes me more nervous than watching my father play. I’m not good with my left foot. I want to play for the Argentine national team.”

Messi wants to play with Yamal

Asked about his favourite goal scored by father Lionel, Thiago somewhat surprisingly chose one that was scored in 2009, two years before he had even been born. “My father’s most beautiful goal was the header against Manchester United in the Champions League final.”

Finally, the youngster revealed that he eventually wants to play alongside breakout Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, who is, incredibly, only five years older than him and already set to star for Spain at Euro 2024.

“One day I would like to play with Lamine Yamal,” Thiago said, himself eligible to represent La Furia Roja at the international level, having been born in Spain in 2011.

Perhaps a return to Barcelona is on the cards for the Messi family in the not-too-distant future, with Lionel recently revealing that Inter Miami will be his final club. Retirement is slowly approaching the 36-year-old but the next Messi could already be waiting in the wings.
