Winners and losers of Manuel Ugarte joining Man Utd
Manchester United are closing in on finalising a deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
The Uruguay international has been Man Utdās primary midfield target for the past few months and a loan deal with an obligation to buy has now emerged as a distinct possibility.
Ugarte, 23, is not in Luis Enriqueās plans at PSG, following the arrival of Joao Neves from Benfica, and he is close to sealing a move to Old Trafford.

A transfer fee has not yet been agreed, so the deal is certainly not done, although there is optimism that an agreement will be reached.
If Ugarte does join Man Utd, who will be the winners and losers from the move?
Winners and losers of Ilkay Gundogan re-joining Man City
Winner ā Luis Enrique
Enriqueās style of play simply doesnāt suit Ugarteās all-action attributes and his debut season at the Parc des Princes saw him drop out of the starting XI in 2024.
With Neves arriving and Ugarte on his way out, Enrique has been provided with the perfect midfield swap and it should allow him to enjoy a successful second season in Paris.
Loser ā Casemiro
Ugarteās imminent arrival at Man Utd is set to signal the end of Casemiroās time as a guaranteed starter at Old Trafford.
Although the Brazilianās form appears to have improved after a dismal 2023-24 campaign, Ugarte is not arriving to play back-up and he will displace Casemiro if he joins. As a result, the ex-Real Madrid star may be restricted to late cameos in the Premier League.

Winner ā Kobbie Mainoo
Kobbie Mainoo shone during his first season in Man Utdās senior team and his form earned him a call-up for Englandās Euro 2024 squad.
However, he certainly suffered next to Casemiro last campaign, with the Brazilianās lack of speed ensuring Mainoo was sometimes over-exposed in the middle of the park.
Ugarte, and his aggressive defensive style of play, will aid the Englishman and enable Mainoo to display his ability in the final-third.
Loser ā Scott McTominay
Scott McTominay is set to drop even further down the Man Utd pecking order due to Ugarteās potential arrival.
Fulham were interested in signing the Scotland international, but they have now signed Sander Berge, meaning McTominay may be unable to seal an Old Trafford exit this summer.
Therefore, he could be destined for a season of very little game time.
Winner ā Joao Neves
PSGās big-money signing Joao Neves will be given a starring role at the Parc des Princes thanks to Ugarteās departure.
Although Enrique would have favoured the Portuguese midfielder anyway, he may well have been pressured to utilise Ugarte in order to maintain his transfer value.
That wonāt be the case if he joins Man Utd, and Neves will benefit.

Loser ā Ivan Toney
Ivan Toney wants to leave Brentford and he looks set to depart the club before the summer transfer closes at the end of August.
However, with Man Utd signing Ugarte, they are unlikely to have the budget to purchase Toney too, meaning the England international may be forced to move to the Saudi Pro League.
