Zinedine Zidane Emerges as the Top Contender to Succeed Erik Ten Hag as Man Utd’s Next Manager

Zinedine Zidane is the betting favourite to replace Erik ten Hag if Manchester United opt to sack their manager after a difficult start to the season.

Ten Hag had an impressive first campaign at the club, leading United to Carabao Cup glory as well as the FA Cup final and qualification for the Champions League.

However, United have struggled so far this season and sit 13th, with a dismal 3-1 loss at home to Brighton already Ten Hag’s third loss in five league matches.

The controversy surrounding Ten Hag and Jadon Sancho has only added to the tension, with the £73 million signing exiled from the first team squad due to a public fall out with the Dutchman.

Ten Hag will likely be given more time to succeed, with Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Mason Mount, Raphael Varane and Sofyan Amrabat all still sidelined, while Antony is also absent from the first team following allegations of assault by multiple women in his native Brazil.

But, should United’s poor form continue, Ten Hag could find himself under further pressure and FootballTransfers has outlined the odds for all the candidates bookmakers believe could replace the ex-Ajax boss.

Zidane leads the way despite unrealistic prospect

Only two bookmakers in Paddy Power and betfair are currently offering odds on Ten Hag’s successors and both believe Zidane to be the favourite at 4/1, although the Frenchman has shown no desire of returning to management, let alone moving to England.

Julian Nagelsmann is the next favourite at 11/2, however the ex-Bayern Munich boss looks set to take over the German national team which would all but rule out the chances of him taking the reigns at Old Trafford.

Graham Potter, out of work since being sacked by Chelsea earlier this year, has odds of 10/1, while current Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino is 14/1 despite being unlikely to leave his post at Stamford Bridge, having only been appointed this summer.

Antonio Conte and England boss Gareth Southgate are 16/1 candidates, ahead of Diego Simeone and a potential reunion with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at 20/1.

Thomas Frank, Eddie Howe, Thomas Tuchel and Jesse Marsch round off the outside chances, with the pool looking slim for United if they do opt to make a change.
