Virgil van Dijk insists he still has 'no idea' whether he'll be at Liverpool or not next season with Reds captain's contract expiring this summer

Virgil van Dijk admits he is no closer to committing his future to Liverpool as the clock ticks down on his current deal.

The 33-year-old Dutchman is one of three Liverpool stars out of contract in the summer and is free to agree a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs.

Van Dijk again underlined his importance to Liverpool during Thursday night’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham when he set the tempo by leaving one on Richarlison in the opening minutes before sealing the 4-1 aggregate victory by heading in the Reds’ final goal.

Speculation over the Liverpool skipper’s future has not quite reached the heights of Premier League top scorer Mohammed Salah or Trent Alexander-Arnold – a long-term target for Real Madrid – both of whom are also in the final months of their deals.

But, after securing his side’s date with Newcastle at Wembley, Van Dijk addressed the uncertainty.

‘I am feeling good, what the future brings I have no idea,’ he told Sky Sports.

‘Anyone who says they know, they are absolutely wrong.’

Van Dijk has returned to his best form this season under the management of Arne Slot, whose side are top of the Premier League, finished at the summit of the Champions League table, have reached one domestic final and travel to Plymouth in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday .

Last month, the veteran defender claimed that he has ‘three or four years’ left at the highest level as he dropped a major hint over his contract situation.

Speaking to Amazon Prime, he said: ‘I love the club, the club loves me. I love the fans, the fans love me and it is a very good foundation to be successful.

‘In my opinion I can play for another three, four years at least at the highest level. We will see what the future brings.’
