Arsenal were dealt a major blow in their pursuit of Premier League and Champions League glory after the news Kai Havertz has suffered a significant hamstring injury.

Mail Sport exclusively revealed on Tuesday night that the Arsenal star had suffered the worrying hamstring injury scare whilst on club’s training trip to Dubai.

And well-placed sources have indicated the injury will result in Havertz spending a lengthy period on the sidelines.

The loss of Havertz, Arsenal’s top scorer this season with 15 goals, comes with the Gunners already missing Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli through injury.

Havertz’s injury is set to intensify criticism after Arsenal failed to add an attacker to their ranks during the transfer window, which closed on February 3.

The Gunners still have the possibility to add a forward having only used 22 of their 25 available places in their Premier League squad.

The forward sustained the injury during the Gunner's winter training camp in Dubai

Mikel Arteta’s side would be able to approach free agents, who left their clubs before the conclusion of the January transfer window.

A possible option would be former Chelsea striker Diego Costa, who left Brazilian side Gremio at the start of January.

Costa, now 36, had returned to the Premier League in 2022 but had an unsuccessful spell with Wolves.

Uruguay international Maxi Gomez, former Real Madrid forward Mariano Diaz and ex-Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder are also free agents.

Gomez and Diaz have not played since leaving Trabzonspor and Sevilla last summer.

Ben Yedder is a free agent after leaving Monaco at the end of last season.

The forward is currently appealing against a two-year suspended jail sentence after being found guilty of sexual assault back in November.

Lucas Perez, Carlos Vela and Yaya Sanogo represent former Arsenal forwards the Gunners could consider brining back to the club in a time of need.

While Arsenal would be able to register a player in their Premier League squad, they would be unable to do so for the Champions League.

Arsenal confirmed their squad for the knock-out stages with UEFA last week following the conclusion of the transfer window.
