The incident has been widely condemned by football fans and authorities alike, with the Football Association releasing a statement saying: “The FA strongly condemns the incident at Old Trafford on Saturday evening and we are working with the relevant authorities to investigate the matter.

“We are appalled by the behaviour of a small number of individuals and we will be working with the clubs and the police to identify those responsible and take appropriate action.

“Discrimination of any kind has no place in football and we will continue to work with the clubs, the leagues and the police to ensure that such incidents are dealt with swiftly and appropriately.”
