Frimpong Sends Message to New Teammate Ahead of £29.5m Liverpool Move

Jeremie Frimpong sent a message to Ryan Gravenberch on social media, ahead of his incoming move to Liverpool.

The Bayer Leverkusen right wing-back has agreed a five-year deal with the Reds but they still need to activate his £29.5million release clause and announce the completion of his medical.

In the absence of a surprise mishap in the latter stages of the deal, Frimpong should join Arne Slot’s ranks when the transfer window opens on June 1.

Frimpong and Slot know each other well and the 24-year-old is eager to link up with his Dutch international team-mates in Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch.

And after Gravenberch was announced as the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season on Saturday, Frimpong shared some words under the midfielder’s social media post celebrating the award.

Evidently eager to adapt his English to align with the local Scouse dialect, Frimpong jokingly commented: ‘Ryan laaa,’ followed by a heart emoji and trophy emoji.

Although they were unable to retain their title this season, Frimpong has still chipped in with five goals and five assists in the league.

A product of the Manchester City academy, Frimpong moved to Celtic in 2019, where he quickly became a fan favourite and won a domestic treble in his first season.

He joined Leverkusen in January 2021 and has since developed into one of Europe’s most dynamic right-sided defenders. Internationally, Frimpong has earned 12 senior caps for the Netherlands to date.

Upon his move to Anfield, the forward-thinking star will have big boots to fill when Trent Alexander-Arnold leaves at the end of his contract, with his destination expected to be Real Madrid.
