MANCHESTER UNITED’S season went from bad to worse on Saturday as they suffered a 4-0 defeat to mid-table Brighton.
Moises Caicedo opened the scoring 15 minutes into the game to give the Seagulls an early advantage.
The Red Devils looked to get back into the game after half time, but a number of defensive mistakes saw Brighton score another three goals in the space of 11 minutes.
Then, with 20 minutes left on the clock it was all about damage control for Ralf Rangnick, who decided to replace Juan Mata with Harry Maguire.
Many fans saw the funny side to the substitution given the circumstances, with rapper Guvna B tweeting: “Maguire on for Mata when you’re 4 nil down against Brighton might be the funniest substitute of all time.”
Another joked: “A bit late to worry about the goal difference!”
Some United supporters also took the time to defend Maguire, who has regularly been blamed for the team’s defensive issues this season.
One person took to Twitter to say: “Apologise right now to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Harry Maguire.”
The Red Devils have now conceded a total of 56 goals this season.

According to Opta, this is the most they have ever conceded in a single Premier League campaign.
Saturday’s defeat has also meant that it is now impossible for the Red Devils to break into the Champions League places.
Instead, they will compete in the Europa League or the Europa Conference League next season.
