Gabriele Biancheri, the Manchester United wonderkid, made a dream debut for the club’s Under-18s side on Saturday, scoring the winning goal in a 3-2 victory over Leeds United.
The 16-year-old Italian forward, who joined United from Cardiff City earlier this week, was handed his first start for the Red Devils and made an immediate impact.
Biancheri opened the scoring in the first half, before Leeds equalised shortly after the break. United then went ahead again through a penalty, but Leeds equalised again to make it 2-2.
However, Biancheri had the final say, scoring the winner in the dying minutes of the game to secure a 3-2 victory for United.
The goal capped off a remarkable week for Biancheri, who only joined United from Cardiff City on Tuesday. The youngster had been on the books of the Welsh club since the age of nine, but decided to move to Old Trafford in search of more first-team opportunities.
Biancheri is highly rated by United’s coaching staff and is expected to be a key player for the club’s Under-18s side this season. He is also likely to be given a chance to impress in the Under-23s side, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to give young players a chance to shine.
The Italian forward is the latest in a long line of talented youngsters to join United’s academy in recent years, with the likes of Mason Greenwood, Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong all making their mark in the first team.
Biancheri will be hoping to follow in their footsteps and make his mark at Old Trafford. If his debut performance is anything to go by, he could be the next big thing at Manchester United.
