PSG will inform Gianluigi Donnarumma that he is surplus to requirements this week, according to a report.

The Italian goalkeeper is coming off an impressive season in the French capital. Without Donnarumma’s exploits between the sticks, particularly in the Champions League, PSG would perhaps not have been able to win a historic treble.

However, Donnarumma hasn’t always been consistently reliable. On the contrary, he has often faced criticism for his sometimes inconsistent shot-stopping and uneasiness in possession.

Moreover, he is a remnant of PSG’s ‘superstar era’ and is on a wage that reflects that. His contract expires next year, and both parties had initially been open to an extension, but only on reduced terms as far as the French champions were concerned.

Naturally, Donnarumma hasn’t been thrilled by this request and has refused to accept PSG’s contract proposal. Unwilling to put up with this, the Ligue 1 side are now on the verge of snapping up brilliant young Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.

PSG to sell Donnarumma

With an agreement for Chevalier only a matter of time, PSG are set to formally confirm to Donnarumma in a meeting this week that his services are no longer required.

At least that is according to Sacha Tavolieri, who reports that PSG will look to facilitate Donnarumma’s departure in the coming days amid interest from Man Utd, Chelsea and Galatasaray.

Fabrice Hawkins similarly reports that Donnarumma’s representatives have begun exploring options on the market, although he emphasises that the Italian’s exit is not 100 per cent set in stone yet. He adds that Saudi clubs and Man City are also among the keeper’s suitors.

Hawkins claims that Donnarumma ‘remains attached’ to PSG and will only pursue a move away this summer if ‘a project fully suits him.’ PSG head coach Luis Enrique is said not to be opposed to the idea of Donnarumma competing with Chevalier for the No.1 spot.
