Sep. 19—DICKINSON — Following his second place finish at the Montana Tech Invitational, which contributed greatly to Dickinson State Men’s golf finishing second at the invite with 888 points, Bryce Reed was awarded as one of the North Star Athletic Association’s Golfer of the Week. This was the first tournament of the season for the Blue Hawks and is the senior’s first GOTW award in the season.

Reed was joined by Amanda Karvala, of Waldorf University, who was named the women’s Golfer of the Week.

Dickinson State was led by Reed at the three-day invite, scoring 12 birdies and going one-under-par in the first round. Ultimately, the NSAA Golfer of the Week finished three over, with a score of 213 — tied for second place and only a single stroke behind the medalist.

Reed would not be alone in the top 10, as Sophomore Blake Barner finished sixth in the tournament with a score of 216. Senior Jack Solberg was just outside the top ten in a 12th place tied position.

“Our men’s team put together three great rounds even when we mixed our starting line up,” Thadd O’Donnell, head coach of Dickinson State Athletics, said in a press release. “The competitiveness of this team is what makes coaching enjoyable. Individually, there were a lot of great performances. Bryce was battling for the medalist right to the last hole and Blake [Barner] had a low round of 69. I am very proud of how we went out to a Frontier Conference meet and performed at a high level. They work hard at their game and it is starting to show.”

At the Montana Tech Invite, DSU’s women’s team finished fifth, with a combined score of 698. Senior Elly Kaupa LeBlanc tied for sixth place to lead her fellow Blue Hawks in the two rounds of the women’s tournament. LeBlanc finished at 77 in the first round.

Currently, Dickinson State is competing in Valley City in the VCSU two-day Invitational.
