Izzy Hassebrock, Sacred Heart-Griffin, girls golf
The junior gained a one-stroke lead with three holes remainingย and clinched the Class 1A girls golf state title with a birdie on the par-3 No. 17 at Red Tail Run Golf Course on Saturday. She finished with a 3-over-par 147 total through two rounds and led the Cyclones to second place as a team despite high wind gusts. She also won first place with a 3-under-par 69 in the Class 1A Roxana Sectional at Belk Park Golf Course on Monday.
Cal Johnson, Sacred Heart-Griffin, boys golf
The senior catapulted theย SHG boys golf team to its third overall state title and first since going back-to-back in 1978-79 at Weibring Golf Club in Normal. Johnsonย finished with an even-par 142 total in the Class 2A state final.

Talin Kern, Auburn, football
The senior quarterback completed 23 of 29 passes for 295 yards and finished with four touchdowns as Auburn defeated Pittsfield 33-13 in the Sangamo Conference. Kern’s first two TD passes went to Carter Hunley (five catches, 99 yards) who covered 25 and 39 yards.
Vincent Pratt, Springfield High, boys soccer
The junior midfielder scored the game-clinching goal in the final minutes of Springfield Highโs 3-0 win over Rochester at Lee Field on Thursday. The win forced Rochester to share the Central State Eight Conference title with Chatham Glenwood โ the same team the Rockets beat the week before in a penalty-kick shootout to set up a possible undefeated run through the league.
Will Seman, Williamsville, boys golf
The senior topped the entire Class 2A Peoria Richwoods Sectional field with an even-par 72 at Kellogg Golf Course on Monday. He won by one stroke while teammate Max Fisher also qualified for the state finals with a 76.

Gavin Simmons, Chatham Glenwood, football
The junior receiver hauled in 11 catches for 103 yards and a TD in the Titans’ย 35-0 Central State Eight Conference win over Normal U-High.ย He also returned the opening kickoff 70 yards to the U-High 27.
A.J. Sypherd, Litchfield, football
The Purple Panthers leaned on their senior running back for 218 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries as Litchfield beat Staunton 37-0 in a South Central Conference game on Friday. It’s the first time Litchfield has had four wins since 2015.
